The sound of the pilots voice announcing our arrival startled me awake. I looked over and saw Niall still rested on my shoulder, soundly asleep. How we managed to sleep through the entire flight was beyond me but it was the best I had slept in a long time. I looked at Niall fondly, listening to his gentle snores before shaking him awake.
"What?" he groaned, rubbing his eyes.
"We're landing," I whispered.
"Already? We've only been here for like 5 minutes," Niall said groggily. He was evidently still half asleep.
I stifled a giggle and tried to lift Niall's head up from my shoulder which was rather difficult since he was leaning on me so heavily.
It was still morning in LA when we landed. Despite jet lag, Niall and I claimed our bags, rented a car, and drove straight to the rehabilitation center.
As we climbed into the car, Niall in the passengers seat, myself in the drivers seat, I pulled out my phone to check up on Louis once again.
"You know, you probably don't need to check up on him as much as you are," Niall said, already knowing what I was up to.
"I know I'm just...worried," I sighed.
The last thing I wanted was for something to happen to Louis because I left him alone.
I checked the address of where my mum was one last time and drove out of the LAX parking lot into the heavy traffic.
"The weather's so nice here," Niall smiled, opening his window.
I smiled weakly in response having too much on my mind to enjoy my surroundings.
I was terrified. Who knew why my mum was in rehab and the possible damage that could have been done?
Niall reached over to my hand that wasn't rested on the steering wheel and squeezed it gently. I knew what that meant and my tense shoulders finally relaxed.
We pulled up to the Los Angeles Rehabilitation Center which looked more like a luxury hotel than rehab. We hopped out of the car and the warmth finally surrounded me. I could feel my heart banging against my chest as I took a final deep breath and laced my fingers with Niall's and walked into the building. A gust of cold air from the air conditioning hit me as the door swung open. I gazed around the lobby at the high ceilings, the chandeliers, and the tile floors. After taking in the sights of the lobby, I instantly recognized my purple haired sister.
"Gem," I called out weakly, causing my voice to echo around the room.
"Harry," she raced over to greet me with a hug, breaking the connection between Niall and I's hands, "good to see you! Who's this?" her eyes shot over to Niall, her arms folded across her chest.
It was always difficult to please my sister with the people I brought home.
"Hi nice to meet you I'm Niall, Harry's boyfriend," Niall greeted, extending his hand out to her.
"I didn't know you had another boyfriend," she questioned me before shaking Niall's hand, "nice to meet you though, I'm Gemma."
"Nice to meet you too," Niall grinned.
My worries faded about my sister not accepting Niall. He was very charming and would win her over no doubt.
"Should we-uh-go?" I nervously stammered, unsure if I was ready to see my mum.
Niall noticed my anxiousness and held my hand in his again.
"Visiting hours don't start for another few minutes. So when did you two start dating?" Gemma was quick to get into my personal life.
I looked at Niall for an answer, nervously sucking on my bottom lip. I was not entirely sure when we started dating. If it was before or after the incident.
"On Harry's birthday actually," Niall piped up.
"That's so sweet," Gemma gushed.
I almost let an "aw" escape my lips at Niall's words. He considered our first date my birthday, leaving out everything in between. I knew he had truly forgiven me for my mistakes and I would never let him regret it.
"Hello, can I help you?" a woman politely greeted us as she walked down the hall towards us.
"Yes we're here to see Anne," my sister smiled politely.
"Oh, you must be Gemma," the woman's expression softened, "your mother has been so excited for you to visit."
I uncomfortably cleared my throat, looking down at my feet.
"Oh!" Gemma spoke up, "and this is my brother-"
"Harry!" the woman cheered, "I've heard so many things about you. Great things. I wasn't aware you were visiting as well."
Neither was I.
All I did was nervously laugh and give her a small grin.
"And this is?" the woman drew her attention to Niall.
"My boyfriend," I finally spoke up.
"Lovely," the woman said pleasantly, "now if you'll just follow me I'll take you to Anne's room."
We followed behind the tiny woman as her high heels clicked all the way to the end of the hall. We all crowded together in the elevator and rode it up to the 3rd floor. We all filed out of the elevator and followed the woman down another hall and stopped at room 305.
"This is her room. Visiting hours end at 6pm," she reminded us before leaving us alone.
"You okay?" Niall whispered in my ear.
I had been clutching on to Niall's hand so hard my knuckles were turning white.
I swallowed thickly and nodded and Gemma knocked gently on the door.
I heard foot steps nearing the door and the door swung open to reveal my mum looking ecstatic. Her eyes then focused on me and they widened.
"Harry!" she exclaimed.
"Didn't expect to see me?" I said in an unexpectedly harsh tone, "since you never told me you were in rehab?"
"Harry!" Niall hissed in my ear as Gemma smacked me in the arm.
My mum pursed her lips. "Well let's not have this conversation out in the hall," she stepped aside and we all entered her room.
