{Chapter 9: Confronting a Mistake}

My feet pounded against the grass. The energy coursing through my body acting as a catalyst and making everything 100 times more vivid. Woah, no one's energy has ever made me this strong.

I jumped off the floor and jumped tree from tree, trying to use as much energy as possible. I flung my body forward away from the branch I was holding, did a somersault, and landed on the floor elegantly.

"Catherine," Hansel's voice echoed behind me. I pushed my legs to go faster. I soon heard Hansel's footsteps behind me.

"Stop! I don't want to harm you! I just want to talk!"

I pushed my legs to go even faster. I had just reached a small clearing when I felt a rock hard body slam into my back. Just as I was about to land face first from the impact, Hansel flipped us so that he would take the fall. I closed my eyes as dirt and grass flew past us. Soon, we stopped sliding and I opened my eyes, immediately trying to free myself.

"Let me go!" I growled. He gripped me tighter.

"No, we need to talk, Catherine!" he growled into my ear. My eyes widened, I didn't want to hurt him again.

"Let me go! I don't want to hurt you. Please," I pleaded. He flipped us so that he was in top of me.

"Look at me! I'm fine! Please, just let us talk," he looked me in the eyes. I slid out from under him and sat up.

"Fine. Just," I say raising my palm towards him, "stay away from me." He leant forward and reached a hand out to me.

"I could help you," he said. "I could help you cease the fire in you... just let me help," he sounded vulnerable.

I shook my head, "No one could help me, I just need to run it off-"

"No you don't," he smiled at me," I could help you." I cocked my head to the side and stared at him wide eyed.

"Trust me," he extended his hand out to me. I eyed it warily. Could I trust him? I hardly even knew this man. He was just a guy I met at a nightclub, who just happened to save me from those three bandits, and I had crazy sex with after marrying him. If he wanted me dead, he would have already tried to kill me.

I placed my hand in his. Hansel grinned and placed his other hand over mine and closed his eyes in concentration. Then I felt it, my hand began to tingle. The relief, the quenching of the fire that was once burning inside of me. I sighed in relief as I felt the extra energy being drained out if me. Hansel opens his eyes and his green eyes and sparkling.

"Better," he questioned. I nodded, "Much."

I let go of his hand and lay down on the grass. I stare up at the pink sky above me, the sun setting. I can't escape this now, I have to face the consequences of my actions. No more running.

"What was that all about," Hansel asked me.

I shrugged, "My gift... I'm an energy drainer."

"Do you do it often?"

"No. I only do it in emergencies, whenever I'm stuck in dirty situations I can't get out of," I reply.

"Is your army used to it?"

"It's only happened twice during a mission. I force them to evacuate before I lose total control," I said stiffly.

"Why?" he asked. I closed my eyes irritated.

"It's either they leave or I accidentally kill them," I murmured through clenched teeth.

"Have you killed one of them before," he reached for my hand and began playing with my fingers. I sit up immediately and shake my head him.
