Chapter 23

The sun began to rise from behind the mountains. The purple sky began to change into soft pink hues. The car began to bounce a little as we entered Romero's territory again. The car came to a stop in front of the mansion and I exited the car without waiting for Romero.

"Catherine! Come here!" he ordered behind me. I ignored him and stormed up the porch steps and slammed the front door open.

"Catherine! I am warning you, do not mess with me right now!" he yelled. I was storming up the staircase when a firm grip on my arm pulled me down.

"What the hell-" I was interrupted when my cheek began stinging. Romero gripped my arm tighter and growled at my face. I held my growl in.

"That is the last time I want to see you walk away from me. Understood?" he spoke gravely. I held my stinging cheek and nodded. He pressed his forehead against mine and wrapped his arms around my waist. He pecked my lips.

"Next time you decide to interrupt me from killing someone, I won't hesitate to do more to you than slap you. And I don't like hurting you. I honestly don't! But you always have me on edge and I can't help it!" he began rambling like a madman. Tears began running down my cheeks.

"Shhh. Don't cry, my love. It's alright," he wiped my tears away using his thumbs, "I promise not to hurt you as long as you obey me, okay?"

I nodded. He gripped my hair and tilted my hair to the side. His already black eyes became even darker.

"When I speak to you, you respond okay?!" he tugged on my hair and I whimpered.

"Yes, Romero! Yes! Just please stop," I pleaded. His grip on me tightened even more and I began to sob. He really was beginning to frighten me.

"Say you love me, Catherine. That you are mine and only mine," he commanded and his hot breath fanned my face. He pushed me against the wall and my back muscles cried in pain.

"I'm yours! Only yours," I said, desperately. He grinned and smashed his lips against mine in a lustful kiss. I didn't respond and he growled. He pushed me away and I slid across the white tiled floor. He stepped over me and walked towards the door.

"I have a meeting today. I won't be back 'til tomorrow so behave Catherine," he scolded and walked out the door, he slammed the door shut behind him. I waited to hear the rumbling car engines that signified his and his men's retreat. I stood up on two shaky legs and grabbed a nearby vase. I threw it against the front door and it shattered into thousands of little tiny crystals.

I ran my hand through my hair and kicked the wall, leaving a denture. That bastard will pay for this. I will make him pay. No one can treat me like rag doll! No one! Suddenly the front door opened.

"Catherine, are you okay? The screaming could be heard from the front lawn," he began but stopped when he heard the crunching glass underneath his shoe. He looked down and began to notice the mess. He glanced up at me and noticed my tensed state. My hands were clenched into fists, my jaw retaining a snarl, and my eyes gave the most murderous glare.

"What the hell happened? Are you okay? Are you hurt?" he blasted questions at me and went up to inspect me. Just as he held my arm, I hissed and pulled my arm away.

"I'm going to Prima Lucé," I informed him and stormed to the front door.

"What? Wh-" he began to ask.

"You are either going with me or I will go without you, your choice!" I snarled at him and stepped out the front door. I heard his footsteps behind me. I dashed to my car and got inside. The passenger door opened and I caught a whiff of lavender and pine trees. Hansel. I wasted no time and headed towards the highway that would transport me to Prima Lucé.
