Shailene's POV

When I opened my eyes, I saw Grayson and Ethan sitting beside my bed, talking, though their conversation paused as soon as they noticed I was awake.

"Good afternoon." Ethan joked, making me furrow my eyebrows as I sat up in the hospital bed. "What time is it?" I asked him, wiping my eyes. "It's nearly 3 pm. The nurse placed your lunch to your side there 2 hours ago, but you weren't up yet." Grayson laughed.

"As I said, It's been weeks since I last had a good rest." I put up an awkward smile, stretching myself out before glancing beside me, where they placed a tray with food on a little table. I lightly raised my upper lip at the sight of it. "Is that even edible?" I questioned, leaning back against the headboard of the hospital bed. We all chuckled softly. "There's a small cafe downstairs, right?" I asked the boys, who looked at eachoter before nodding their heads. "You want to go downstairs and get some food?" Ethan asked me, and I instantly nodded. "Yes, God. At least something fresher than this." I said, drawing my legs up under the sheets. "Well, I need to pee, but you guys can go down and get yourselves something." Grayson said, standing up and putting his phone in his pocket. "Fine." I said, throwing my legs over the edge of the bed and following the both of them out of the room.

As Grayson made his way to the toilets, Ethan and I stepped into the elevator and headed downstairs. I looked down at the ugly clothes I was wearing, fixing the dress while Ethan pressed the buttons to go to the ground floor. Feeling the elevator come to a stop, the doors opened, and I walked out first.

I guess Ethan didn't know the way around any better than I did so, together, we found the way to the little cafe in the huge building. My mouth began to water at the sight of fresh bread and healthy sandwiches. I missed this. It felt so good to be out in the world again. We entered the cafe and instantly walked up to the fridge, my eyes going through all the different sandwiches they had.

I eventually went for a regular tomato sandwich, which Ethan kindly took out of my hands and walked up to the cash register with.

"I'd object, but since I don't have my card with me, I'll let you pay this one time." I said, following closely behind him. "You act as if it's a crime, paying for you." Ethan chuckled, placing the sandwich on the counter. I laughed, poking him while he put his card through the scanner. "Aye," He said, nudging me. I jokingly nudged him back. "Stop," He whinged, nudging me again. I laughed and poked him again. "You better stop before I throw you over my shoulder," He threatened jokingly, but I smirked and poked him again anyways.

He looked to the side, and that's when I turn around and start running towards the stairs. I laughed loudly about my huge headstart as he grabbed the sandwich and ran after me. I ran up the stairs, realizing I lost my breath way faster than usual. I was giving all I had, rushing up the stairs just so Ethan wouldn't catch me.

"Shay, stop! You probably shouldn't.." I heard Ethan say behind me, but I couldn't quite process it. He shouted some more things, but it was already taking every single bit of energy in me to push myself up that stairs. The adrenaline racing through my body made the dizziness worse, but in the distance I saw Grayson. I only had a few more stairs to go until I was on my floor. "Grays- Help me, your brother-" I couldn't finish my sentences, though at least I made it to the last step.

But right as I wanted to lift my foot one last time, I felt myself completely lose sense of balance, along with my sight going black.

Ethan's POV

"Oh my G-"

I dropped her sandwich, ran up the stairs faster than I ever had and caught her skinny body in my arms right before her head hit the sharp edge of the steps. I let out a shaky breath, my eyes shooting up at Grayson who rushed towards me on the stairs with wide eyes. "Get a nurse, Gray." I told him fiercely, then lifted her body up and walked back to the room she stayed in, carefully laying her down in the bed.
