Grayson's POV
'Bro, this is crazy.' I said, gazing out the window and taking in everything we passed by.
We'd just arrived in Sydney, planning to surprise Shailene for her birthday. We hadn't texted her or congratulated her at all, to make her think we forgot about her. Yeah, that sounded horrible. But I couldn't wait to see her reaction when she saw us.
Ethan kept quiet, just like me, mesmerized by the resort we were driving by. We couldn't actually see inside, as the resort was surrounded by tall hedges to maintain privacy, but the tall building in the middle of the place was hard to miss. A logo that said 'Cora Hotels & Resorts' was lit up and hung at the front of it, five unmistakeable stars below it.
'I knew there was something going on with her home. She always shrugged it off.' Ethan said, his cheek basically plastered to the window of the car.
We'd kept light contact with Shay's mom, even though we'd parted ways, but it allowed us to arrange this here, right now. But despite everything, I felt sick to my stomach, knowing I was about to see her. I was crazy nervous, and it had been driving Ethan absolutely insane.
I had no idea where we were actually headed, Shay's mother had just told me their house was on the cliff-side of the resort... But soon enough we entered a gate, and we drove down a short driveway, that led up to a crazy modern, white house, built into the cliff.
My mouth fell open when the car stopped and Ethan and I got out. I closed the car door, but didn't take my eyes off the piece of architecture in front of us.
Ethan and I turned to look at each other at the same time, and started to laugh. We started to get our luggage out of the trunk, shaking our heads. 'What the fuck, bro. This is insane.' I said as I pulled my wallet out of my bag, and paid for our ride. Then we strolled up to the house. Someone came through the front door, and waved at us. It was a girl, a little older than Shay I assumed.
'Hey guys!' She welcomed us, opening the double doors for us to come in, with all our bags. We placed our suitcases in the big hall, taking in the ginormous space. The girl closed the doors again, and we turned to face her. 'Hi,' I greeted, as we went in for a hug. 'I'm Grayson,' I said as we pulled away, and she hugged my brother.
'I'm Charlotte. Nice to meet you guys.' She introduced herself. 'Welcome to our house, I hope you had a nice trip here.' She said, and we nodded our heads. I started to take off my coat, and she pointed towards the coat rack behind my brother and I. I took one of the hangers and hung up my jacket.
'I'll show you guys to your rooms, but I have to disappoint you. Shay isn't here, she's in the city with some friends.' Charlotte chatted as she motioned us to follow her. She offered to carry one of our bags, but we politely waved her off. We followed her up the stairs.
'Oh, what is she doing there?' I asked curiously, Ethan giving me a funny look for some reason.
'Well, she turned 18, so obviously, she's at the bar.' Charlotte said, obviously. I rolled my eyes at myself. 'Oh, yeah. Didn't think of that.' I said, my face turning a little red and keeping silent the rest of the way.
We walked down a long hallway, and after passing by a few rooms, we stopped at two doors, facing each other. Charlotte turned around and pointed towards both of them. 'All rooms have ensuite bathrooms. I don't know if you guys want to share a room or have your own?' She asked us, waiting for a response. Ethan and I glanced at each other, then shrugged. 'We'll share a room.' I said, and Charlotte nodded her head. The heavy sports bag, hanging from my shoulder, was really digging in my skin, so I was eager to lose it. Charlotte pushed one of the doors open for us and let us walk in.
