millie's p.o.v.

"finnie, are you sure this is a good idea?" i walk into the room, flattening my black dress with my hands.

finn's standing on a step stool, hanging up streamers, with the help of caleb.

he turns his head to face me.

quickly, finn steps off the stool, walking over to me. he wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me close. i try and smile but the butterflies in my stomach prevent that. finn takes notice and holds me tightly.

"millie, you look beautiful." he breaths softly, giving me goosebumps.

i look down at my bare feet.

he lifts my chin kissing me. his fingers grazing my cheek.

"happy birthday." he whispers in my ear, before going back to work on decorations.

i feel my cheeks go rosy. my face gets warm and my belly feels fuzzy. i smile.

noah, maddie, nick, gaten and grace get back a few minutes later and soon we're done setting up.

finn shuffles over to me, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me close.

i'm so caught off guard i laugh.

"what's so funny pretty girl?" he asks, without even the slightest vibe of flirtation, which is confusing as hell.

"n-nothing." i stammer, my face burning hot.

oh what he does to me.

"the guests'll be here soon." he whispers before planting a kiss on my cheek.

i take a deep breath. "let's go to our room first." i say, surprising myself.

he smiles broadly. "i thought you'd never ask."

we head down the hall, hurrying into our room and shutting the door.

eagerly, we both jump on the bed.

sometimes we do this. we're not really doing anything, but not doing anything is, possibly, our favorite thing to do.

we lay cuddled close together on top of the bed, just breathing.
silence falls over the room like a warm blanket.

"i don't think this party's a good idea." i admit.

he presses his body closer to mine, reassuringly. "nonsense. it's my girl's birthday and we need to celebrate."

i smile at the way he calls me his.

he runs his fingers through my hair, his touch causing a whole new world of galaxies to open up. the universe conspires, the stars approve and the moon stops hiding just to peer at us from above. and for the first time that day, finally, finally, something feels right.

i turn to face him, planting sloppy kisses on his mouth. he tastes like sunshine, like i've just been kissed by the morning light.

then i stop, turning away from him and staring off into space to think.

"what are you thinking about, pretty girl?" finn breaks the silence.

"you and me." i breath, turning to face him and feeling his curls tickle my forehead. "you know, we aren't eternal."

finn furrows his eyebrows, frowning.
"don't think about that, pretty girl."

i look up at him. "you didn't let me finish."
