Marie, the fury burning in her eyes, furiously ran to the bridge, screaming at anyone in her way. When she pounded into the room, she walked briskly over to Sulu.

"Does the ship have enough energy to beam someone up?"

"No, the power was drained, we are almost fish in a barrel"

"Can you send someone down?"

"Yeah, I think so, but why?"

"I need Khan"

Uhura was also on the bridge, and she turned to the brokenhearted ensign standing there, shaking with anger and sadness. She went to her and wrapped her arms around her.

"Oh honey, I'm so sorry for what he did to you"

Marie shrugged off the embrace.

"I don't need him like that, I want to get him and punish him and make him pay for what he did to my best friend"

Spock sat in the captain's chair.

"As acting captain, I say let her go"

Sulu nodded and locked on to Khan's signal. Khan's ship had crashed to Earth, and the Enterprise was still managing to stay above the atmosphere, floating dangerously low, but in a safe zone. The lights were around her and suddenly she was on the ground. She quickly scanned her surroundings and took into account the friendly people all around. She turned and saw Khan's huge black ship, now in burning, smoking ruins. She squinted and looked closely, noticing a moving object near the destroyed bridge of the ship. It was Khan. He jumped at least a mile down from his ship to the ground and was unharmed. Marie bolted after him, chasing him through the street, not paying attention to traffic or other people anymore. She knew deep inside she had nothing left to live for. Her best friend and the love of her life were gone, nobody else on the enterprise had enough power to stop her from going back to the academy, and as an ensign who had just finished school, she had more programs and work hours to finish. All she wanted was the thrill of space and the adventure of new life and new civilizations. Khan raced into a building and as Marie mindlessly followed him he jumped through a glass door. He shielded his face but Marie was too numb to think and kept running through, she didn't try and protect herself. She could feel the glass shards pierce her skin and draw blood, as it tore through her uniform. She didn't care, she was numb. She kept running even thought she was tired and her head hurt. She had the catch the traitor and make him pay. Marie tried to focus on Khan, just as he jumped off the edge of the road into the airship lane, landing on a moving panel of some sort. She leapt after him and they faced off.

"Marie, I don't want to hurt you, but if you attack me I will have no choice"

"Everything bad that has happened to me in the last few days is your fault, and I want revenge"

They started to fight. Marie was a poor fighter and Khan was a superhuman. She threw a few good punches, but soon enough Khan had Marie on the ground.

"Marie, you're bleeding everywhere"

She managed to pull one arm free and punch Khan in the jaw. He was caught off guard and loosened his grip, allowing Marie to wriggle out and get on top of Khan, throwing one blow after another to his face. Suddenly the lights appeared beside her and Spock grabbed her arms, hauling her off of him.

"Ensign, we need him alive! The Doctor knows a way we might be able to save Kirk but we need Khan's blood"

Marie didn't hear any of that, she had passed out in Spock's arms from the injuries she had. Khan had fought back, and she was bleeding from the glass. The transporter brought all three of them back to the med bay. Khan lay in one bed, sedated. Marie in the middle, wrapped in bandages and casts. Kirk lay in the last of the three beds, dressed all in white with red skin and obviously very sick. They stayed that way for days.
