Uhura approached the Klingon guards that appeared on the steps of the apparent consulate they'd landed near. Kirk, Marie and Spock leaned close to the door to try and hear what they were saying. Uhura was speaking forcefully, and for a while it looked as if she might talk them out of the situation. That is, until the Klingon grabbed her by the throat and lifted her into the air, threatening to kill them all and attack the Earth. Just as Kirk handed guns to Marie and Spock, a pink blast of laser came from across the colony. Marie, Spock and Kirk rushed outside to assist Uhura and see where the shot came from. It had struck the Klingon holding Uhura and he fell to the ground. Instantly, everyone in the vicinity had weapons and was fighting. Marie found herself separated from the group and taking on a Klingon by herself. She couldn't help but think of her impending death. She had never been a good fighter and had barely passed those classes at the academy. The Klingon grabbed Marie and slammed her head into a rock, and she fell to the ground screaming before falling silent. It was hazy and dark through her eyes for what seemed like years, until she felt a gentle hand on her forehead.
"Miss Marie, is that you?"
Marie fought to open her eyes, and when she finally did, she saw John Harrison kneeling beside her with a worried look on his face.
"I...hard ground....what happened? head hurts"
"Don't try and talk, ok? Just rest. A Klingon hurt you pretty bad but I'm here. I'll take care of you"
Marie nodded, then grimaced. Harrison lifted her head onto his lap and held some cloth to her bleeding head.
"Am I going to die?"
"I won't let that happen. I'm waiting for the fighting to stop, and then I'll get you out of here"
Marie's shaky hand reached out to Harrison and he took her hand in his, holding it gently. Marie weakly squeezed his fingers and clutched his arm to her chest while tears dripped silently down her face. Harrison hummed to Marie softly to keep her calm. After a while, the sound of the battle started to slow down, and Harrison scooped Marie into his arms and carried her to where his ship was hiding. He lay her on a bed in his own small med bay and started to clean the wound on her head before bandaging it and giving her some pain medicine.
"John?"
"Yes, Miss Marie?"
"Am I going to be ok?"
"Yes, I stopped the bleeding and stitched the cut. Your skull is fractured, but the air in my ship is full of nano particles that heal. As you breath them in, they're repairing your skull"
"Thank you, John. You saved my life"
"It was nothing. You should sleep, it will help speed the healing"
"Ok"
"Sleep tight"
"John will you stay with me?"
"Of course"
Marie smiled and John crawled onto the bed with her, propping her against his body. Marie's head lolled onto his chest and she closed her eyes while John stroked her hair. Her breathing slowed, and she was asleep. John Harrison was surprised that he was in this position. He knew she was a member of Starfleet, and he knew she was there on a mission to find him and kill him. Yet, she was willingly sleeping against him and seemed to enjoy it. Harrison could only hope that this moment would last as long as possible, as he acknowledged his feelings for the pretty ensign.
