Starstruck (Star Trek/Khan FanFic) - Under Editing

Forgive, Forget, For Now

Marie awoke and moaned softly. She hurt all over. Pushing herself into a sitting position, she looked to her left. Kirk lay in the bed there, all in white and his skin back to a normal color. They must have brought him back to life somehow. She looked to her right and saw Khan, the damage she had caused to his face had healed and he was sedated. Marie slipped out of her bed and walked over to Khan, pressing some buttons and unhooking a wire or two. Then she waited, with a syringe full of sedative in her hand. After about 10 minutes, he came to.

"Marie, I thought I would never see you again. How much time has passed? You don't look any older"

"I don't know, I think it's been a few days. I've been out too, lost a lot of blood from running through the plate glass window"

"Sorry. Why have you brought me around? You'll get in trouble I'm sure. But I suppose that's never bothered you"

"I want to know why. Why you broke my heart and left me"

"Marie, it isn't safe for us to be together. I'm a wanted criminal and you're an innocent officer. I want you to have a normal life, that's the best I can give you"

"Normal is boring. We can have fun together"

"Marie..."

"Khan please, I..."

Suddenly, Khan grabbed her wrist.

"Marie, my love, I would give anything to be with you. But Starfleet just won't allow it. They are going to put me in stasis. They can't allow some superhuman alien to be running around Earth"

"We can hide, please, let's try"

"My dear, you're so young! You have your whole life ahead of you"

"I'm 19, and I know what I want"

Marie leaned over and passionately kissed Khan. She had to show him what he was giving up. She climbed into his bed, laying on top of him. He grasped her waist and kissed back with a force she had never felt in him before. Marie moaned, sliding her fingers into his thick black hair. They made out for a while, until Marie broke away panting.

"Do you still say that I'd be better off with someone else?"

"I don't want you to think I'm shallow, and that all it takes to change my mind is a kiss like that one, but I don't want to be frozen"

"I can't stop them from doing that. What I can do is wait. I'll wait for you, say, 5 years. When I'm 24, I will come and defrost you and we can run and hide and be together"

"I can wait that long. It will be like the blink of an eye for me"

Marie smiled, her eyes filling with tears.

"I have to sedate you again"

"I know. I can't wait to see you again Marie"

"I will miss you so much, Khan"

They looked deeply into each other's eyes as Marie connected the wires and sent her love into a deep, dreamless sleep. Then she heard footsteps. She raced back to her bed and climbed in and lay down. When the door opened, Bones came in. He stopped at Khan's bed to ensure he was out, before moving to Marie. She slowly opened her eyes, feigning that she had been asleep. Bones checked out her vitals and then sat on the edge of her bed.

"How are you doing?"

"I've been better"

Bones laughed.

"I'm sorry about him"

He nodded to Khan, and Marie closed her eyes slowly.

"Thanks. He's better off this way"

"Yes. Safer for everyone"

Bones patted her leg before moving to Kirk's bed. Marie slid out and walked over, taking Kirk's hand in her own.

"I think he's about to wake up! He's been out for 3 weeks, you both have"

Kirk's eyes snapped open and he gasped, frantically looking around until his eyes landed on Marie's face. She squeezed his hand and he pulled her close, tightening his arms around her.

"James, relax. You're alright"

"She's right, you're being melodramatic. You were barely even dead"

"How did you bring me back?"

"Khan's blood, I made a serum from it. Tell me, do you feel at all like a homicidal maniac?"

"Not yet. Where is he?"

"Over there, knocked out. He's getting put into stasis tomorrow"

Marie sat on the edge of Kirk's bed.

"When can I go home?"

"Marie, your house got destroyed when Khan's ship crash landed"

"Oh...I could live in housing at the academy for a while"

"Marie, you can live with me"

"James, you'd do that for me?"

"Of course I would, anything for my favorite girl"

Marie blushed.

"Good, let her live with you. You're gonna need someone with you for a while. I'm relieving both of you from active duty for a year, doctor's orders. You need some time to rest and have fun and adjust back to normal life"

"Of course doctor"

Kirk slid over on his bed and Marie hopped up. She figured what better way to dispel suspicion that she might try and save Khan than by making it look like she was with someone else? Marie and Kirk lay together, Kirk's arm around Marie as she snuggled into his chest.

"You can both go home tomorrow morning, and then you can change and come back to see Khan be frozen"

Kirk nodded, and Marie was already asleep in his arms.

Bones laughed.

"She's been like this since we were little"

"I'll see you two tomorrow, get some sleep Kirk"

The two best friends lay together, scarred from the aftermath of the last few days, but clinging to the support each other's presence provided.
