Starstruck (Star Trek/Khan FanFic) - Under Editing

Welcome Back

Marie marched straight to the medical center of Starfleet HQ, returning the waves, smiles and nods of her former and now once again coworkers and colleagues. Several people came up to her to shake hands or give her a quick hug. It was hard for Marie to adjust to at first, because for so long it had been only her and James or her and Chekov, she didn't often interact with other people. Although, the minute she walked into the med bay, Bones was running around the room like a chicken with his head cut off barking orders to the nurses.

"Lieutenant! Glad to see you're back! We are incredibly busy, there was a Talaxian flu outbreak in sector 7 of the city, 15 people are in with symptoms right now. Start on bed 9, I'll introduce you to the other staff members once we get this thing cleared up"

"Aye sir"

Marie jumped into action, grabbing a medical tricorder and examining the first person she walked up to. They had a small pink rash spreading across their nose and cheeks and odd looking purple spots on their arms.

"Hello, I'm Lieutenant Stanton, are you feeling any pain?"

"No I'm just incredibly nauseous"

"I'll get you something for that"

Marie pressed a hypospray into the patient's neck, administering a mild sedative to calm them down and lessen the nausea. Together, Marie, Bones and 2 nurses managed to treat all 15 patients and send them home. While the medical staff began clearing away supplies and disinfecting the room, Bones made introductions.

"Marie, these are the ensigns working here. Samantha, who likes to be called Sam, and Hannah"

"Nice to meet you"

"Nice to meet you too"

When things quieted down in the medical bay, the staff sat down at their desks to relax.

"How does it feel to be back Marie?"

"It feels wonderful. I was getting tired of sitting in Chekov's house every day all day"

"I thought you were living with Kirk?"

The two female nurses perked up at the mention of the handsome captain.

"He...I had to move out. Long story"

Bones nodded and went back to wiping down microscope slides. The door to the room slid open.

"Speak of the devil"

Marie glanced up to see none other than James Tiberius Kirk standing in the door to her place of employment.

"Marie, can I talk to you for a moment?"

"Go ahead"

"I...I meant alone"

Marie snuck a look at Bones and shook her head almost imperceptibly.

"Captain I would prefer if my lieutenant remained here"

"Fine then. I came to wish you a welcome back, Stanton"

Kirk turned on his heel and walked out while Hannah and Sam giggled and blushed at his back. Marie rolled her eyes.

"Thanks Bones"

"Don't mention it"

The rest of the day was uneventful. Except for a few minor injuries and a couple of colds, nothing else happened and there were no new patients. At around 7, Marie slid on her jacket and started towards the door. She planned to meet Chekov at the entrance to the hospital building so that they could have their night out to celebrate. As Marie turned the corner of the hallway into the main lobby, she was grabbed from behind. Kirk shoved her against a wall and covered her mouth. Marie tried to scream, she thought Kirk was going to finish what he started, however, Marie saw genuine fear in his eyes.

"Marie, please be very quiet right now. There are people in the lobby that shouldn't be here. I called security but my guess is they are waiting for you"

Marie nodded and Kirk removed his hand from her mouth. Together they cowered behind a pillar and waited for the guards. The suspicious men were removed from the property and Kirk walked Marie outside into Chekov's waiting embrace.

"Ready?"

"Ready!"

Marie smiled and the two walked away, arm in arm. Marie never looked back at Kirk, she continued on towards her night of fun.
