"Quick! Feel for a pulse!"
James pressed his finger's to Marie's neck, feeling for the blood rushing through her veins.
"It's faint but it's there"
Chekov sighed in relief, pressing a kiss to Marie's forehead. She moaned and her eyes fluttered open.
"Where...what...Khan..."
The two men sighed in disappointment at the mention of Khan.
"Marie, you got kidnapped. I called Kirk and he came to help me find you. You had some weird drugs running through your body. It's ok, you're safe now. Khan isn't here, you probably were hallucinating. He's locked up, Marie, you won't see him again"
Kirk looked around, analyzing the building.
"We need to get out of here before they come back to check on her. It's very odd that we didn't see anyone on our way up here"
"Do you think it's a-"
Suddenly the building started to shake. Chekov swung Marie into his arms and raced after Kirk. They made it to the stairs and managed to get down to the second floor. Kirk pulled out his communicator and called for backup from Starfleet HQ. The next flight of stairs had crumbled to hunks of stone at the base of the first floor.
"We can't get out that way, the whole building is falling apart. We need to leave before the thing takes us down with it"
"Help is on its way, but I don't think we can hold out that long"
Chekov walked over to the window and looked out. He handed Marie to Kirk, ignoring Marie's flinch, and opened the window.
"This is a really bad idea, but there are bushes below this window. We could jump"
"I don't...We don't have another option"
"What do we do about Marie? Is it safe for one of us to hold her?"
"As long as you don't land on her. We need her to be ok!"
Kirk said that so forcefully that Chekov couldn't help but think that maybe Kirk meant to say that he, specifically, needed Marie to be ok.
"She can land on us but we can't land on her"
Just then the building gave a particularly forceful shake and the entire window pane fell out of it's frame, landing in the bushes below and shattering.
"Great, so now there's broken glass. Could this get any worse?"
Kirk shook his head. Marie opened her eyes.
"James..."
"It's ok Marie. You're gonna be ok"
"...hospital"
Kirk panicked.
"Chekov we need to get out of here now"
"Jump"
Kirk climbed up into the gaping hole in the wall where the window used to be.
"Marie, can you hold onto me?"
Marie struggled to lift her arms, but she couldn't. She started to cry, silent tears falling down her face.
"Shhhh Marie it's ok, don't worry. It doesn't matter, we are still going to be ok. Nothing will happen to you"
Marie nodded and closed her eyes. Kirk turned to look at Chekov.
"Good luck. Be careful"
"Thanks. You too"
