Lewis
“Oh my God!”
Lewis whispered under his breath as Hayley hit the sidewalk with a thud. He was at her side in an instant. He lifted her limp arm to feel for a pulse, and there it was, under his index and middle fingers that were securely wrapped around her thin wrist. She’s alive, He thought. Lewis bent down and scooped Hayley up into his arms, she was heavy.
“It’s like carrying dead weight.” Lewis mumbled to himself as he walked back over to the railway with Hayley in his arms. People were staring, more rudely than concerned. Lewis rolled his eyes and sat on the wood bench and sat Hayley next to him, she slumped over into his lap. He quickly picked her up and rested her head on his chest, lightly brushing away the hair from her eyes.
“Oh Hayley, What am I going to do with you?”
The drive back home from the train station seemed longer than it was driving to the station. The road seemed endless as it mapped itself around. For most of the drive they were both silent except for the occasional checking if she was doing okay. She felt the sun radiating on the car, it was warm. She felt light headed and couldn't help but slipping into sleep with her head on her arm, against the window pane.
