Lewis
Karla took him home in her own car.
“You weren’t fit to drive around in this state.” She said to him softly as she sat in the car parked outside his house. Lewis sighed and looked at Karla.
“Thank you,” He took her hands in his,
“I mean it, thank you so much for coming to support me,I don’t think you know how much it really means to me.” Karla slipped her hands out of his nervously and looked down at the steering wheel,
“I should be heading back, and you should go inside and get some rest.” Lewis took a deep breath in and let it out in a loud sigh.
“Would you like to come in for some coffee or something?” Lewis asked, desperately needing company. Karla lifted her head and smiled.
“That sounds super.”
Lewis tried unlocking the front door but found that he was shaking too much to get the key into the lock. Dejavu from driving his mother to the hospital sunk in. Karla took the keys from his hands
“Here, let me get that,” and undid the lock.
“Thanks.” Lewis smiled half-heartedly; slightly embarrassed he couldn’t even open the door. He let her go in first and then closed the door behind him, hitting the light switch and adjusted his eyes to the bright lights. Karla stood nervously in the front hall and twiddled her thumbs.
“Oh, feel free to make yourself at home.” Lewis started and then stopped in his tracks and peered at the floor. Little droplets of blood lined the floor from where he had run down from the stairs with his mother to the wall where he had leaned her against. Blood had dried on the wall from where she had her head against it earlier. It looked like a murder scene from CSI. “Karla, I’m sorry, this place is such a mess.”
“Oh, it’s alright. I didn’t even notice.” Her face was ridden with shock and fear.
“I need to clean this up.” He said and started walking into the kitchen.
“Lewis, don’t worry about it, its fine.” Karla said and touched his shoulder. He took her hand from his shoulder and turned to face her. She looked sympathetic and so caring. She tugged him forward and gave him a tender hug. Lewis slowly wrapped his arms around her and breathed in; her blonde hair tickled his cheek. It felt so good to have someone in his arms, he hugged her tighter, taking in all the comfort and love he sought for. Karla stroked her fingers through his hair and just simply held onto him. Lewis just needed support and Karla, of all people was there for him.
“Thank you.” He mumbled into her shoulder.
“You got it.”
