Hayley
“He’s coming here?” Mrs Bennett asked curiously, raising an eyebrow. Hayley nodded and rolled her eyes dramatically. Mrs Bennett chuckled to herself, “Well, this should be interesting, oh and please keep the noise level down, I have a killer headache and I don’t need two troubled teenagers screaming at each other.”
Hayley shot her mother a look and walked upstairs, flinging her school bag against the wall. It toppled to the floor, spilling its contents. Hayley swore under her breath and began to pick up bits of stationery and paper.
“Hayley, Lewis is here.” Her mother called from downstairs. Great. Hayley discarded the rest of the paper and pens on her bed and jogged down the stairs. Lewis stood awkwardly at the bottom of the stairs, shuffling his feet. Hayley rolled her eyes.
“Well? Are you coming or not?” Lewis looked up from his feet, straight into Hayley’s eyes. She felt completely overwhelmed. She shook it off and turned her back to him and walked back upstairs, Lewis followed closely behind her. Hayley let Lewis walk into her room and she closed the door behind her. Lewis stood in the middle of her room and looked around like he had never seen it before.
“You haven’t changed anything.” He whispered. Hayley frowned.
“It’s been two months.” She stated blatantly. Lewis shrugged his shoulders and stood completely still. Hayley cleared her throat and run her hand through her hair.
“Let’s get started then.” She grabbed her bag and rummaged through it to find her notebook and some pens. She looked back at Lewis who was still standing there, staring to space.
“Look, if you are just going to stand there and not help me you might as well just go home.” Lewis frowned at her but he didn’t seem to be listening to her. He was in his own world. Hayley walked over to him and stood in front of him, waving her hands in front of his face to try and get his attention.
“Yoo-hoo, Lewis? Earth to Lew...” Lewis grabbed her wrists in his hands and held them tightly. “Ow, Lewis, let go of my wrists, you’re hurtin...” Hayley felt Lewis’ lips slam against her own. She was completely shocked, he brought her hands to his waist and let go of them, grabbing onto her waist to pull her closer. Hayley stood rigid; she didn’t know what to do. She knew she shouldn’t want this, but she couldn’t pull herself away from him. Lewis groaned and stopped kissing her and let her go instantly.
“I’m sorry. I, I should go.” He turned and grabbed the door handle in his hand and then paused.
Hayley felt her heart drop. Typical Lewis, running away as always. He looked over his shoulder and smiled shyly at her.
“Sorry Hayz.” He whispered and then left. Hayley stood in place. She couldn’t will herself to move. Why does life have to be so complicated?
Mrs Bennett waltzed into Hayley’s room and frowned at the floor then cast her eyes over Hayley’s now pale face.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost, why did he just storm out like that; I swear I saw him crying outside.” Hayley shook her head and stammered over her words. Finally she managed,
“No Mom, no ghost, just the past creeping up on me.” And with that she burst into tears, collapsing to the floor. Mrs Bennett sat down next to Hayley and pulled her to lean against her chest. Hayley cried for at least half an hour.
