Lewis
“Lewis!” She screamed.
Her voice echoed and bounced off of every large surface, hitting Lewis loudly. It was coming from the east, the opposite side of where he had stated walking to, he turned and noticed it was back towards his and Hayley’s house.
Lewis picked up speed and ran down the seemingly never-ending roads. As he neared himself to the recognisable road where the road split into two different streets, his and Hayley’s over the bridge.
Lewis could feel himself running towards the bridge. As he reached it he leaned as far over the side as possible and scanned the water raging beneath him.
“Hayley?” He yelled at the top of his lungs. Nothing. No answer whatsoever.
Lewis pulled off his jacket and dived over the edge of the bridge into the water. The water hit his arms and face first. It burned. It was icy, he couldn’t feel any single limb on his body, but he didn’t care. He was determined to find Hayley.
Why would she do it? Why would she run off and jump into the water, off of the bridge? That just wasn’t like her.
What could have possessed her to do it? Sure, their break up wasn’t the best or the easiest on either of them and there were a whole load of unsaid feelings and mixed emotions left but she at least had a family, more than what he was left with.
An ass of an uncle and an empty house filled with memories.
Lewis swam around in the murky water, it was so dark you couldn’t make out anything. He took in a deep breath and dove under again, relying on his frozen and numb hands to brush against anything that may have been human.
Lewis was slowly losing his breath and needed to go up for more air but found he couldn’t. No matter how hard he tried to swim back up, there was something just pulling him back down, he felt around his legs for seaweed or reeds that may have caught on but there was nothing.
Lewis’ lungs were on fire and he could hear his heart pounding in his ears. Slowly his eyes felt heavier and heavier and he was finding it hard to stay awake. He was slipping into sleep and couldn’t control himself any longer, his brain was obviously oxygen starved. Lewis started to sink down, ever so slowly.
Time seemed to freeze completely.
Until it came to a total standstill.
