Hey, he texted. Immediately the answering bubble popped up and he laughed. That was one of the things he liked about her--she could be doing something and pick up practically right away.

Yo, what's up? I was just thinking about taking you to In-N'-Out since you haven't gone ever. Wanna come? If you have time, I mean.

Of course I have time. I always have time for you ;)

He could hear her own laughter in his head.

Oh stop it, she chided. I have a boyfriend and you know that.

😔 I'm sorry

Nah, we've been doing it for years. Does it really matter?

It matters because consent is everything 😛

Stapppp noooooo don't quote me that was when you were 14 and 13 noooooo don'tttt

Anyway, In-N'-Out. You said you would take me there?

Okay, if we go, don't make it seem like we're dating. You always do it and Ty doesn't even know. That's bad. You got it?

Miss Walters, I wouldn't dare!

Shut up. You ready? I'm about to head out to your house.

You do that, I'll go dress up.

Oh, and don't forget the daily selfie! It's already 3PM and you haven't sent it yet!

Would you like today's special? It's called "Shirtless Wonder" and it's an upgrade for free...

OH MY GOD JUST GO GET DRESSED I DECLINE THIS UPGRADE GO GO GO

...Are you sure...

YES YOU'RE DELAYING THE TIME IT TAKES TO GET TO YOUR HOUSE COME ON I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU NAKED

No, I wouldn't do that to you. But I'll go ahead and dress, see ya soon 😘

NOPE

...

Okay byeeee 😘

A single knock on the door, and he came rushing to the door. "Hi Iris, come on in. I'm just--" She walked straight in, took a look around, and sighed. "How come you didn't clean up? You have a guest over, for crying out loud."

"'You're not my boyfriend,'" He mimicked. She slapped him on the arm. "Even so. Come on, I'll help you clean after we get back from In-N'-Out. The burgers aren't to die for because I don't want you dying, but they're so good. Let's go, bilis, hurry, time's a-wasting."

"A number 2 please, and keep the onions in. What do you want, Daniel?" He looked up at the options, and smiled. "I'll have what the lady's having." Another slap.

"I said don't make it look like we're dating!"

"And I'm not!"

The cashier stepped in. "Yes, yes you are. But that'll be two number twos, right?"
"Ah, yes. And I'LL BE PAYING, DAMMIT," raising her voice when Daniel thought he discreetly pulled out his wallet. He put away his wallet and held up his hands in defeat. "Of course, I'll take the freebie. It was your idea anyway to bring me here." Glaring and then turning away, she gave her card to the cashier and took it back after they swiped it. "Here's your receipt, just wait for us to call the number."
"Yeah, thanks," he nodded to them and they sent a thumbs up in return. He shook his head and awkwardly walked away. After snagging seats, she shrugged. "Anyway, while we wait, let's talk about something. Anything."
"Like what?"
"Like how you're somehow still single. Come on, no one hates you that bad, right? Yeesh. Honestly and truly."
"Remember when I liked Michelle?"
"Oh yeah, that was a time." Iris snickered and he shot her a playful grin. "So I actually got in touch with her the other day, and she admitted to liking me in person. Like, face to face confession."
"Oh yeah, she told me about that. She has a boyfriend too, you know. His name is Kevin." He nodded, surprised.

"You're saying I could have asked you if you had Michelle's number?"

"Oh yeah. You never asked though."

"Number 71!"

Iris took a look at the receipt, got up, and came back with the burgers and fries. "You take a photo first and then a bite of your burger. I have so many In-N'-Out photos, it's crazy."

"Sure sure, whatever." He did what she said and he nodded, chewing the food. "So," she said, watching him. "Is it good to you?" He looked up and winked. "As good as you are to me.
