How BTS Made Me Happier

Yes, how cliche! How it is, you ask, that a Korean boy band with the name of "Bangtan Sonyeondan" made you happier? What did they do for you?
They did a lot.
It had taken her quite awhile to make me used to the sound of some international gibberish. I always asked questions, like "What does this mean?" or "Why do we have to listen to this? I can't even understand what they're saying." I made no efforts to look up the lyrics in English because at the time, it didn't appeal to me. I was still hung over on One Direction and some other songs that I placed on my Spotify playlist. Honestly, my only reasoning was that I didn't like the sound of stuff I couldn't understand. After I finally saw their faces, I claimed I couldn't tell the difference between the voices and faces. "They look too similar!" I'd snarl when I'd see them.
The first songs I ever really listened to were "DOPE," "I Need U," and "Save Me." Because I was being nice to my sister, I allowed her to download "I Need U" and "Save Me" onto my phone. Now I have them permanently.
Spring Break of this year (2017), my sister made me listen to one of their more recent songs, Not Today. The beat was alluring and filled my mind when I was on the bus, taking a test, reading, etc. I decided to do my research and listen to another song, Spring Day. Wanting to feed me more BTS, my sister introduced me to... the... YOUTUBE side of BTS. They had their own channel and so many people had graciously subbed their conversations.
Over time, I learned to know their faces and voices. When I finally matched the voices to their faces, I was thrilled. I dug deeper into their music, uncovering songs like "Boy In Luv," "Boyz With Fun," "Bapsae," and so much more. One by one, I recalled the times I'd dissed the group I'd come to love in just 8 days. 8. Frickin. Days. I'd stay up until 3 just trying to get to know the boys better. The ARMY's (ARMY is the fanbase) kindness won me over. One night, I decided to read into the lyrics of my favorite songs. As I did, I realized that there was more to them than what they showed. Here's what I thought after doing deeper, elaborate research (and after choosing my bias).
Starting off with the oldest, Kim Seokjin, someone much more than just the visuals of Bangtan Sonyeondan. I really appreciate this man. He's the mother. His stage name is simply Jin, and he tells the best dad jokes around. He's been dubbed "Princess Jin" by ARMY. Although he's the member with the least lines (so far) and is also stationed in the back for group dancing, he can do amazing things, as shown by his solo "Awake" in WINGS/YOU NEVER WALK ALONE. He can read and speak basic amounts of English. Kind, caring (as shown in the video that the managers and PDs pranked BTS by having a crying girl up up with them to the 17th floor), and can cook? I love him <33
Third oldest, Jung Hoseok, main dancer and loves to do aegyo for ARMY. He loves the ARMY immensely, as he always says he wants to meet ARMY. Hoseok also loves and cares about his mom a lot (his solo on WINGS/YOU NEVER WALK ALONE was called Mama), and in general his family. He's often a producer and creates lyrics for songs sometimes. I respect Hoseok--he's hardworking and also cares about BTS. He can also harmonize for vocals and raps. He's not much of a thrill taker, but once he gets into the swing of it, he truly does enjoy it! Is part of the duo SOPEME. Like Jin, he can read and speak the basics of English. He can create melodies for songs and produce them. HE HATES SNAKEU. Best flower J-Hope :D
Second oldest, Min Yoongi. Rapper and the D-boy from Daegu. Very passionate about working and low-key cares about ARMY and BTS. He might act like he doesn't accept your crap, but deep down, he does. So very talented in piano (he rapped First Love, his solo on WINGS/YOU NEVER WALK ALONE)! Suga is his stage name and they chose that name because he's sweet like SUGA(R) and pale. Is also part of the duo SOPEME. He's also called Agust D because he released his own mix tapes under the name Agust D. He has a sort of hard time with English. Moderate fanfictions for him. I respect this man too. Like Hoseok, he can create melodies and produce. Also strict. He's lazy but he still gets work done!
Fourth oldest and leader, Kim Namjoon! GOD OF DESTRUCTION, I SWEAR. He's broken a lot of stuff. One of the main producers and songwriters for the group. Self taught in English (aka V good :D) Although he can be a bit strict like Yoongi (or maybe Yoongi goes a bit farther), Rap Mon(ster) can be fun and bright. Tallest member. He gets scolded a lot by the other members to not break inanimate objects, but he says to "break the music world!" Always the optimist and will choose Bangtan Sonyeondan over going solo any day.

This concludes the hyung line! Time for the maknae line.

Second youngest is Kim Taehyung, best actor (starred in the k-drama Hwarang)! Stage name V, and is also from Daegu. His voice is deep and amazing but there's a child in everyone, so let's just go with that. He can speak the basics of English. There's not much I can say about Taehyung--he's cute (honestly they all are), caring, AND LOVES GUCCHI. He gives back to his family a lot and wants to meet them if he gets free time. He'd probably be a farmer if he didn't pass auditions.
Third youngest Park ChimChim! I mean Jiminie! JIMIN! One of the most sweetest boys you'll ever meet, ever. Like Hoseok, Jimin loves ARMY a lot. Jimin is the shortest member of Bangtan Sonyeondan and gets teased a lot. They say he's bad at acting, but he's not that bad! Honestly, all I can say is that our sweet, lovable ChimChim can hit the high notes hard af. He's also the one who starts off "Blood, Sweat, Tears" dance. Moderate fanfictions for him. And loves "accidentally" flipping his suit jacket off his shoulder.
Youngest and the golden maknae, Jeon Jungkook. There's a lot of fanfictions of him out these days. But, he can play Overwatch like a pro. Dancer, rapper, vocalist. Hoseok and Jungkook love to tease Jimin about how short he is. His nickname is true; he's golden in every way. Everything he does and anything he does is precise and near perfect.

I'm pretty sure I forgot a lot of stuff, but you can look up the more personal details online if you'd like. But these seven boys and their personalities brighten up my day and make me think of how fortunate I am to live where I live. In more political areas, okay, sure, you might say that we're so unfortunate (pretty sure you know which country I live in now), but the possibilities are next to endless here. So many people migrate to where I live for a new start at life or to earn a better living.

They're so humble and thankful for all the efforts the fans put forth for them. Right now, they're in the running against so many other good American artists in Billboard's Top Social Artist award for BBMAs this year.

Their songs give me comfort and they've saved me from downward spirals in life so many times.

Please learn to appreciate them as much as I do.
