Can I Really Be Your Mate?

Chapter 4

The next morning, the first period was biology, Mr Martine was supposed to tell us on project. Everyone sat with their project partner except me and Eliza.

“Good morning student, this year’s project will be on…” Mr Martine sentence stayed incomplete as the door slammed against the wall and Ben came inside accompanied with Gwen and Kevin.

“Good morning late comers, I hope you have an appropriate excuse for your lateness.

“We are sorry sir, there was lots of traffic”

“Ok, its fine take your seats and be more punctual next time.” Ben came

 and sat beside me. “As I was saying, this year’s project will be on wild plants in the forest of the south. It will be a trip of one week, we will camp over there and you will carry out your project…”

Just as the teacher said forest; all the images flashed back into my mind

-Sarah I’m here, come catch me…….. Princess run away, go ….

-No I’m not leaving you, Sam come….. Let go of Sam…. Give him back

“Sarah, Sarah, Sarah… Sarah, Sarah,” whispered someone while tapping on my shoulder when I came into reality and saw Ben looking worriedly at me.” What happened? Are you fine?”

“Yea I’m fine” I said and look back at the teacher. Yet I couldn’t concentrate, I kept thinking about that accident that was the last time I saw Sam, my last memory of him. I have a trauma when it comes of forest, I don’t think that I will able to this project. I need to tell the teacher about this, I have to make an excuse on anything just to avoid this. I didn’t even realised when class ended.

“Hey Sarah, don’t you want to go. Come on hurry up!!” shouted Eliza.

When I looked around the class was empty except of Eliza, Gwen, Kevin and Ben who was staring at me. I continued looking at him yet he stay quite

“What?” I snapped when the silence was becoming so awarded.

“Are you fine?” ben asked worriedly and so softly that it seem like he was whispered. My expression soften from his words. ”I’m fine nothing to worry.”

“You sure you seemed zone out before…”

“I’m okay, it’s just… nothing forget it. Let’s go we are going to be late for the next class” I said packing my thing quickly and went to my locker followed by everyone.

I had maths class after, my favourite subject. No matter how much I tried to concentrate, those bitter memories kept on coming into my mind. After maths I had English and then it was lunch. Eliza and I took our plates and were searching for a table when Gwen signal us and invited us to their table. Ben still had that worried expression on his face when I sat next to him. Then he looked at eliza.

“still mad at me” ben question Eliza

Eliza didn’t reply continued to eat her food.

“Look I’m sorry that Ryan is not here, but it was important for him to go to the other town.” Ben search for her face as her didn’t react he continued and said, “It was urgent but guess what…”he said in exciting high tone

“What” Eliza replied at last.

“Ryan, he returning tomorrow.”

“Huh… really. OMG it is so great.” She looked at me” you can’t imagine how happy I am right now.”

I just stared at her like a dumb not understanding a single thing.

“Oh Sarah you don’t know Ryan, he is my boyfriend. He was away because of ben but now he is coming back I’m so happy.” She said smiling. When I turned to ben he opened his mouth to say something when that bitchy Julie came and sat on Ben’s lap and started their makeout session. I felt a strange pain in my chest, I could no more watch them. I excused myself saying that I had work to do and went to the library. I wonder what that pain was.

 I was just about to ask Sarah out for dinner for tonight when Julie came and started to kiss me. It felt gross, before I had time to push her I heard Sarah leave. She must have felt bad. I pushed Julie away from me ferociously, she fell on her butt.

“Don’t you ever dare to act like that in front of Sarah again!” I said angrily with a very high tone

“Why? Since when did you start to care about that bitch?”

“Lower your tone in front of me and don’t bad mouth Sarah” I shouted at her. She flinch and look down

“I’m sorry, it won’t ever happen again” she apologised still looking down.

I left and made my way to search for Sarah. I had to make things clear and tell her that there is nothing Julie and me. But the bell already rang  and every got into class. I took my books and went to class after school I will talk to her. I have been dating Julie since last year, even so it didn’t stop me from sleeping with other girls around the school. I was just waiting for her to come into my life, my mate. Now that she came I will not let go of her, never. Yes Sarah is my mate, I have a human as mate but it didn’t matter, I just want her by my side now. The first day she entered the classroom, I knew she was the one, her scent was so intoxicating that it made my mind dizzy. It took me time to talk to her but fate made it easy for me by pairing us for this stupid project. I didn’t want her to find me a weirdo to jump on her for the first time to have a conversation, that’s why I took my time and was quite successful.

After school I waited for Sarah, when she came out I went to her.

“Hey, I need to talk with you”

Elizabeth was with her, she looked at me and then to Sarah.

“I let you two talk, I’m going home first. See ya later Sarah” said Elizabeth and went away.

Sarah watched Elizabeth left and then looked up at me.

“Want to go somewhere to talk… -”

“No” she interrupt me, “I want to go home”

“Ok! I drop you. I will be able to talk on the way.”

She walked pass me, I jogged to her and showed her my vehicle, I opened the door for her. Then I hopped in, judging the atmosphere the talk won’t be smooth.

She gave me the direction and sat quietly with her hand on her lap. I didn’t know where to start.

“So what do you want to talk about” she said breaking the silence.

“I just want to tell you that there is nothing between me and Julie and I wanted to invite you out for dinner.”

“NO”

“Huh!! “

“I said ‘no’. I don’t want to go out with you.”

“Why?” I asked looking at her, she was still looking straight in front of her and her face was expressionless.

“Why? You ask?” she turned and looked at me now, “As far I know, you can’t say that there is nothing between you and Julie, because you are dating her. I think that means that She.is.your.girlfriend.” she snapped “Now stopped we are already reached my home.”

I stopped and she got off without saying anything more. I just watched her walk away. She was right somehow, Julie was still officially my girlfriend. If I want to start something new with Sarah I will have to break up with Julie first. I have to meet with Julie right now.
