All too soon it was the last night in Southport.
It's nearing midnight Lou thought sleepily.
John had bundled up a blanket, a box of goodies and woken Louise, conning Neil into sneaking them down to the beach so moonlight could entertain and sea spray could listen.
Needing to be nothing short of Houdini, Neil pushed them through a narrow opening in the fence behind the hotel, tossing the box over the top and they were free.
It was wonderfully silent as they found themselves on the seafront and John's eyes drank in the waves of the ocean that greeted them, letting them put distance between business and pleasure.
Standing together facing the Irish Sea, tiny lights of perhaps the Isle of Man sparkling offshore, drinking in the scent of freedom, John pressed his hand gently into Lou's begging her silently to anchor him always.
He knew this ahead would be a mountain of trip ups and apologies he could feel it, with him being a useless twat when it came to responsibilities and promises. John prayed he wasn't going to hurt Lou and that she would forgive him again and again and stay, till he learnt what being a good husband should be.
Settling on the blanket drinking cheap wine and eating crisps Lou told John what she had dreamt as she waited for him tonight and John listened as her voice turned from sweet musings to cackling laughter. He loved her voice and one day he would get this birdy to sing properly for him, she hummed but nothing proper like.
George said she could, her bedroom walls were thin, nothing was hidden in the Harrison household. George also told how Lou and their Ma would sing by the fireplace. But whenever opportunity arose at rehearsals or singalongs Lou begged to be passed over saying it was George and the lads caper not hers, or conveniently she would escape, citing the need to use the loo.
The night turned quiet and sweet exploratory kissing began, all new and ready to discover, searching for that certain button that each had, the one that woke pleasure, invoked flames of passion.
He took her swiftly and she whimpered into his neck. No one for miles and miles, alone in the moonlight by the sea and tucked away in the dunes. Her dress would be imbedded with sand when it came time to wash but she didn't care.
All she wanted, and all she wanted to have, was right here. Meeting her, thrusting deep, giving what he should, to only her. John moaned and her name was cried into her neck and she clutched him tightly to her with limbs tightening around him, binding them.Lifting her hips higher was both of
their undoing. As John loved her, and she him, everything seemed more potent, heady and strong. "ohhhh Johnnnnnyesss" It didn't matter that it was here that they were saying their silent goodbyes for another few days, weeks...Even though the goodbyes hung over them like a grey cloud of drizzly rain they both trusted that now sunshine would meet them in a week or two when they were finally 'home'.
Running fingers through her hair trying to get any sand out, they held each other close on the damp beach, the few clothes they had discarded reluctantly pulled back on.
Neither wanting to stand or walk away from the peace.
Kissing Lou softly John finally made a move, and stood, pulling his girl to her feet "Come on let's go see our beautiful baby daughter"
They meandered back to the hotel, Lou grasping Johns arm with both of her's holding tight.
"You be alright back with ya ma?"
"Yes, all sorted. Will you miss me?" Lou stopped John as they got to the small hole in the fence "....Will you?"
"Course" John didn't know what to say, what could be said to his wife other than that "Yes Louise I will miss your arms and kisses... and licks" John laughed when Lou hit him, always with his sillyness and never straight.
"You will tell me if I'm being too clingy John, won't you. You must. We must tell each other" Lou allowed John to guide her through the fence then, in the small space beside the building she stopped him walking on, stopped him to make him understand how much she worried about them. "John?"
"Louise please. I will tell you if you're being a leech"
"Oh really, a leech?" Lou stared into the eyes that bore back at her, pulse rising.
What did Lou want him to say? He mused to himself.
"Well I'll tell you when you're being a right prick" Lou turned to move off, annoyed more than anything, that she had upset them both with her fears. Mere minutes after being so enveloped in love.
"Louise" John pulled her back and pressed her close. He dropped his head to her shoulder, breathing her in, his voice rattled with worries "Louise ..... Don't leave me"
It wasn't a 'don't leave me for this week' it was a plea not to ever go.
Lou did a double take, her mind fumbled and confused. Wasn't she the one worried about him leaving not the other way round.
"Winnie .... there is nowhere else I would want to be" She kissed him, her hands surrounding his frame tight. She squeezed the bits out of him, not worrying about being clingy anymore. ".....and there's no one else I would like to share this wacky life with"
