Evie had a slight cold, not yet a badly running nose, no fever, no reason to be worried.
Lou ran about like a chook with her fucking head semidetached, "For pete's sake Louise she's a little under the weather, no need to be so dramatic"
Louise through her hand up in annoyance, couldn't he see Evie laying so limp in her arms looking so very tired and pale, couldn't he worry a little bit too?
Lou glared angrily at her husband , surrounded by his oh so important newspaper with glasses perched on his aqualine nose, plate of toast cut in triangles on his lap, teacup dangling from his selfish fingers as he reclined, laying cossetted in the middle of the warm bed. "Arghhhhh, I am not being over dramatic. Christ John look her fingers they're white" Louise shoved baby's fingers in Johns face.
"Aren't they supposed to be white? I didn't remember you describing that bloke as dark in appearance" John went there, down the track, back to a place they both denied ever existed and he went there on a morning Louise was worried, pulling her hair out no less.
"Press your dainty digits on the ends Johnny how white are they then? Oh, and look at bubba's eyes- yellow! They are all yellowy where they're supposed to be white too"
"Oh yeah! Hey that's pretty neat my fingers do go red when I press on them. Her eyes? Lots of bananas perhaps?" John looked up pinching his fingertips and noticed Louise set Evie down beside him and start to dress in her own going out clothes. She still hadn't much in the way of dresses and such and he hadn't really bothered or had the inclination to push her to shop more. Any hap she looked quite lovely in her brown frock with white piping and the purple peacoat. Christ that brings back memories that thing, I remember her up on the wall not wanting to tell me anything bout that horrible night, so strong she was. Now look at her walking out the door-- "Louise where are you off to?"
"She's had no bananas John. I'm dressing Eve and going to the doctors" Louise yelled from Evie's room.
Now the deal was well and truly laid to bed, (John sniggered at his own in joke) he thought how different Lou's old room was. Done up with baby's bedding and piles of pink pillows in the corner for reading, well Evie couldn't read but she liked chewing corners of books when I read to her, John smiled, the little ragamuffin. She also crawls everywhere if I don't make funny noises or pay her attention. Just like her mum .... wants my attention all the t-
Louise walked down the hall with Evie sorted in a tiny white peacoat like her Ma's, a folded stroller contraption under her arm.
John flung the sheets of linen and papers aside, the teacup, plate full of crumbs and hard corners of toast dashed to the side table.
He hopped around the room trying his best to dress his legs and find a clean shirt in double quick time.... He fell over with a heavy bang on the floor, the dark navy trousers around his knees, trying again he pulled them up there and then as he lay sprawled on the hardwood floor. Standing he tucked the shirt, he'd grabbed with an iffy history from the hamper, into his pants and buttoned and zipped his fly."Taxis here, I'm off" Louise called from the front door, she wasn't messing about this morning and she meant to be at the doctors as soon as she possibly could.
"Wait up!" John strolled out of the room tugging his dark grey jacket up his arms then ran fingers through his hair. Lou looked worried, she was frowning as she watched Eve ever so dozy in her arms. But upon seeing John dressed and obviously ready to accompany them she smiled a tired but relieved smile at him as he took the stroller from under her arm. Lou combed fingers through his bed hair. "Better, luv?"
"Much. You're certain you want to come along? I can't be sure how long we'll be and you know how you are..."
There weren't any gate birds at the front of the building, it was before seven in the morning. So, with no screaming nor pushing and pulling they had an easy walk to the taxi, Lou patting her bag checking she had her purse.
"I'll be alright. With you keeping me in line Louise, I'll behave" John poked her arm and ran a finger over Evie's cheek, so soft he thought. He then ran a finger over Lou's cheek and she smacked him away, not in the mood for his small ministrations.
John turned and stared out the window as the car sped along the high street.
"Fuck" John leered as he looked at the sign "Really out of all the doctors in London, 'im"
"Get out of the taxi John.... Thank-you, keep the change he has loads." Lou tried to stir John with the money quip but he stood beside the black cab frowning up at Nate's building.
Louise now attempted to capture Johns attention from the sign he glared at denoting whose surgery they were attending "John..... John! Look it's Nate he knows ..... he knows Evie, you must understand?""Yeah but....." John clutched for small barely there straws and sneered "It's 'im"
"I get you're jealous and it's-" They moved closer along the path toward the building bantering back and forth, Louise shaking her head at him being ... well, him.
"I'm not fucking jealous Lou. I just ummm yeah....."
"Jealous" Lou stopped and turned about on the second step leading into the brown brick terrace building that held the doctors practice. John a step below.
Her fingers finding Johns grumbling pouty lips she pinched them softly, then drew a finger up his cheek, lowering her voice and letting sincerity shine through "I made love to you last night John, no one else"
Lou's lips slowly curled into happiness as John beamed up at her.
"And I made ya scream" John gloated like he had conquered Everest.
"John! Shush. Geez, yes ...... and you made me scream" Louise started up the steps again rolling her eyes now confident John was on her heels "..... But it won't happen again" she stated to the entrance door.
"Ohhhhh really, dath Louise Lennon issue a challenge?" John reached round Lou turning the door handle, pushing the weighty timber open. "Because you should know, I readily accept" Lou blushed as John's caramel thick sexy words kissed her ears, his hot breath on her neck.
John grinned, she blushed like a virgin on her first date, it was becoming and sweet. Yeah sweet that she let me still have that effect on her, he thought.
