After school Peter meets Dalton behind the school but Peter's not alone. Instead of trusting Dalton (for some unknown reason) he brought Nick along with him.
Given Dalton and Nick's pass disputes over Cole, Nick was absolutely the right person to bring to this discussion.
"Oh, hi, Peter. Great you came," Dalton said sounding quite naive and super friendly.
Peter really wasn't buying into Dalton's little act, it was starting to piss him off.
"And you brought Nick, even better." Dalton said stopping to stare at the two guys standing in front of him.
"Okay, um well Peter I have the biggest apology to give you." Dalton said breaking the awkward staring and silence.
"Wait, what!" Peter utter in disbelief of what he thought he just heard.
"I said that I want to apologize. I've treated you unfairly merely because I was being stupid and superficial and paranoid." Dalton replied simply as if it was obvious.
"Yeah, right, okay pretty boy." Nick snapped in a defensive tone hint heavily at the sarcasm.
"I'm serious. In the passed I've called you names and picked on you but I had no right to, if anything I should applaud you because even though I was a dick you still stay true to yourself and I'm sorry I couldn't see that before. As for the thing with Cole, I guess I was jealous and supposedly "falling for him", I don't really know. I should've respected the fact that he liked you first and that you liked him. I felt if I had Cole around me like everybody else hang with I could gain from that instead of Cole gaining social standing." Dalton explained.
"I'm fucked up, okay. I didn't want to become second best but I also wanted arm candy but I was stupid about it. I've e always been stupid about things like this. I never took into consideration how much this could effect anyone besides my self. Mel was torn up about the whole club thing and Peter, I saw how much it hurt you too. I got in between you find finding happiness and understand how it feels because I got in my own way too." Dalton continued beginning to create a shakiness in his voice. Like he was about to break. "The good thing about this was that you're still friends with Cole, I sadly lost even a chance to get him to be even an acquaintance, much less a friend. Peter, I'm sorry."
Dalton had to stop. He shrink down and looked at the ground, his body uncomfortably tight together. He just shrivelled up.
"And Nick what I did to you wasn't justified either. The way I talked to you like you were a peasant and I was the king. That was disrespectful. I was blinded by trying to have so much space around Cole and I and I completely forgot about the fact that you were trying to protect him from exactly what I did. I'm sorry, Nick. You really are a very noble friend to have." Dalton said not raising his head from the ground. "And I completely understand if you two think that everything that I'm saying is bull crap, I mean why would you trust me now and you can beat me up if you want to, I probably deserve it. I just ask that you keep this conversation between us, don't tell Jess, Mel, or Cole."
Dalton was shivering on the verge of tears but he didn't want to cry in front of these two, he'd seem weak and girly.
"We're not going to beat you up. Why would we, you've already showed that you apparently have a heart. Not just a heart but a heart that is considerate. Dalton, I think you've finally learned that being popular doesn't mean you have to be a dick. And given your new found knowledge, I loved to see if we could get along as possible friends." Peter replied wholly.
Instead of speaking Nick went over to Dalton and hugged him. "Thank you," he whispered into Dalton's ear which made him finally raise his head.
