At 6:45 that night Dalton heard Hunter's signature knock on his door.
"Hi, Kiva," Hunter said casually while Cole stood behind him shyly.
"Hi Hunter, and who is this face you've brought with you." Mrs. Rapattoni said with a small smile.
"Oh this is Cole, Cole Pendery," said Hunter.
"Hello, Mrs. Rapattoni ," Cole said in a quiet voice trying to seem friendly and polite.
"Oh, it's nice to finally meet you." She said knowing what was about happen.
Dalton's mom let them sit then went upstairs to make sure Dalton was descent.
They went up stairs into Dalton's room. Dalton was laying in his bed next to a bucket and his meds with his dog, Maxie at his feet.
"Hey buddy," said Hunter sliding his hands into his pockets.
"Hi Hunter, Cole," Dalton spoke in what sounded like a raspy whisper. He sat up on his bed and pet Maxie on her back.
"Umm, okay...ah Dalton. How do you feel? I heard about what happened and I was kind off worried." Cole said breaking the weird silence that filled the room.
"Oh...ah I'm-," Dalton bagel answering but stop to clench onto his stomach.
Cole rushed over to the side of his bed, lifting the bucket, just in case.
"Are you okay?, " he said the obvious worry showing in his voice.
"I'm okay. I just have to wait while me new favourite stomach ulcer kills itself so I can try eating..." Dalton stop speaking and glanced at Hunter.
Hunter could stand seeing his best friend like this. He wanted him to eat and sleep and take his meds and live like he used to, but he also knew that this was deeper than just going back to routines.
It hurt to hear him like this and see him like this.
"Well, I hope you get back to being your old self again quick." Cole said trying to understand the look that Hunter just received.
"Why?" Dalton asked bluntly. He kind couldn't think straight after going to the doctor earlier. He was a bit awkward to communicate with at this point in time.
"Because I know how you feel when you're sick and you just want it to go aw-"
"No, why do you care if I'm well or not. You don't even like me. I'm worthless and useless to you." Dalton said cutting Cole off.
Dalton might as well say anything that came to mind at this point. He was basically dying.
Dalton's mom called up to his room for some assistance from Hunter. They had plan that bit to makes sure Cole and Dalton would talk alone.
Hunter spilt from the conversation and ended up eating Smart Popcorn down stairs with his second mother.
"Don't say that!" Cole said a little bit shaken up by Dalton's words. "You're not worthless or useless and I don't hate you..."
"You don't like. You might not hate me but you don't like me. Which is totally understandable, I mean who really ever liked me. I'm stupid and was shit to a lot of people. I was so stupid that I didn't recognize that I got jealous of Peter. I'm so stupid I didn't realize that I still have three assignments I didn't hand in because I kept scheme for a boy who wouldn't care. I'm so stupid I fucked things up really badly. I'm so ridiculously stupid that I fell in lov-"
"You're not stupid. I get that you like... me. I need to know something before you start throw words together then spitting them out. Can you listen to me? Please. This is important." Cole said, a pleading look in his eyes.
Dalton cringed/buckled then laid down, his head on his pillow and his hand draped across his stomach and ribs. He laid on his back for a second then rolled on to his side, closest to the bucket.
"Ok," said Dalton in huffy awkward breaths.
"From the beginning. Okay. When I first got hear and you came up to me all cheeky, I had to admit that I thought you were really cute but then Mel kept telling me how like dangerous and shifty you were. I saw you and Darryl in the hall and then I guess I knew what she meant. So, I guessed I looked for something less dangerous and I ended up with Peter and I could tell there was some antagonizing thing between the two of you. I didn't know why. Then after when he punched you in the face, I felt horrible. While I was helping you clean off I sort thought there was something there. It happen more than once when we were hanging out with Nick. But when the party came around everything got weird and yea I know that it was your two girls that are always with you. I know that you've never really done anything this extreme before. Hunter and Mel and Nick all said that you were never this intense but I couldn't figure out why you were like that with me. You started acting differently after I yelled at you in Drama. It was weird because I didn't thing it would faze you but look what happened. Why was I so important to y-" Cole's words were slowed by Dalton's word flowing out of his mouth.
"JEEZ, COLE. I FUCKING LOVE YOU, Okay! I think about you all the time and dream even more. I keep staying up ALL NIGHT because my mind keeps pop things around.
• I wonder if Cole still hates me (stupid question).
• Hey remember when Cole used to smile at you (how great it was).
• Remember when you were confused and angry that Cole turned you down (how you need him around).
• Cole's smile, eyes, hair, style, clothing, laugh, stupid jokes, blushing, shyness; EVERYTHING (we just want him around us).
• We can get him to not hate us (just tell him how much you're sorry).
• Should we even try to talk to Cole (no, he's happy now let's just admire from afar) .
• Holy shit, he's perfect (we fucked up, we don't want to fuck up anymore).
• Let's do everyone a favour and stop being around (hey! No one needs us, we were useless).
• How about we do Cole a favour and just die already (we could help everyone by not being aliv-" Dalton was about to finish when a sob caught in his throat.
Cole had noticed Dalton tears pool as he listed of his combined thoughts. They wouldn't stop rolling down his cheeks. He was pale and seemed to not be faze by his warm tears. It was as if he was so use to sadness that the tears were a part of him that had just haunted his eyes.
