The next couple days/ weeks were like that, actually. Cole didn't know what to do but he ended up telling his friends happened.
"Omg, that's great! I mean that he apologized," Jess said trying to make it sound better than it seemed.
"Wait, why? And why do you believe that he's changed so easily?! After everything he did." Cole was shocked and confused. He didn't want to deal with anything anymore.
Jess leaned over and whisper something into Mel's ear and then Mel hinted something at Nick and Peter with a lot of head rolling and winking.
Welp. No subtlety there. They have a huge secret that isn't going to be a secret anymore. Cole braced himself for what might just come out of this casual lunch convo.
"Okay, Cole, we all have something to tell you. Dalton was talking to us awhile before he decided to talk to you. He came up to us individually just so that he could talk to us but it wasn't about you." Jess began to explain to the confused brunette sitting across from her.
Cole cocked an eyebrow and sighed heavily, slowly moving his hand from under his chin to have it comb through his hair.
He gestured for them to keep going. "Well, we weren't suppose to tell you this actually. None of us were suppose to know about anybody else, really. Dalton all told us not to tell anyone especially you." Mel further explained.
"What did he say to all of you?" Cole am said sounding completely done with everything that was going on.
"He apologized to us, all of us. He got really emotional. It was kind of weird but I noticed that he was being nicer to people, willingly. And I don't think it's a scheme. I think he's truly changing." Nick said sounding astounded by his own words.
"Why should I believe any of this crap anyways?! All he's done is hurt people! This doesn't make any sense." Cole began raising his voice and getting weird looks.
"Cole, I think he's given up or given in or just can't do it anymore," said Mel beginning to have everyone peer into the animalistic view of Peach Cree High. "You see from the beginning I've experienced all of Dalton. I saw his freshman loser stage and then his rise to douchebag fame. He kept rising and rising, getting more caught up with everything as if he was trying to keep up with himself. I know it seems contradictory but I been observing everything. I've notice the look that each kid gives Dalton, expecting him to be god or something. I don't thing anyone can do that. I'm not supporting him or anything but he broke down Cole. Actually tears flowed from his blue-green eyes down his cheeks and onto the floor. He couldn't even face me, Cole. It seemed like he was about to throw up every time he opened his mouth to speak again. I'm not saying that you should just believe everything I'm saying but what I am saying is that consider how long we've been friends and how I'd never lie to you."
With that Mel got up and left the lunch table to gather her books for her next class.
Nick, Peter and Jess all chimed in with there own opinions and stories and left.
Cole was finally sat alone with his own thoughts and the words of his friends buzzing in his head at an empty lunch table.
~ Later on ~
Cole sat up in his bed staring at ceiling. Thinking.
He finally stops thinking and tries sleeping.
What should I do? Still ringing the bells of his mind.
