They chatted mutually for a whole then Peter and Nick part ways with Dalton.
On the walk home Nick decided to question so etching Dalton had said amongst his apology.
"Hey Peter, Dalton said he didn't want us to tell Mel, Jess and especially Cole but if he did all that stuff for Cole wouldn't he want us to tell him about this to make Cole like him, like what if he's tricking us?" Nick inquired quizzically.
Nick had a point. And Dalton did have a bad rep for tricking and manipulating people but then again Dalton got so worked up about his apology.
"Maybe he's embarrassed by it or he's trying to trick us but it's not gonna work. We're not telling Cole!" Peter said sternly but with a slight hesitation in his voice.
The next couple days were weird. Nick, Peter and Jess had been keeping secrets from Cole. Mel also had to hide whatever she knew from him as well.
And for Mel it was even worst because Dalton was acting strangely when ever she passed by or was around him, at all.
Smiling, big and bright and politely saying hi and starting brief but delightful conversations, he was doing it all.
Mel couldn't help but think about what Jess said to her about the apologies and the "emotions" Dalton shared.
She didn't know what to believe.
This went on for about a week until Dalton stumbled upon Mel in the hallway and took her aside for a talk.
Mel didn't know what in particular to expect. Well, expected some form of speech thing maybe about how he changed or how he's tired of "fighting" like this.
Sadly, Mel underestimated Dalton's ability to shed his emotions so fluently. Dalton did this long speech apologizing to Mel for some stuff he didn't even do but was apart of.
When he was done he ran off so that Mel couldn't respond. He didn't want Mel thinking that it was just some game or a trick.
Mel couldn't even look at Cole knowing that she wanted to tell him about what Dalton did.
In Dalton's free period he went into the school's swimming pool to relax and clear his mind. Swimming always helped him plus he was pretty fast.
He wanted to find out how to apologize to Cole with out him, you know, freaking out.
In the middle of a thought Hunter and Andrew bursted into the pool.
"He draws!" Andrew yelled from the other end of the pool. Dalton swam over confused.
What was he talking about?
"Cole, he draws and he likes to swim." Hunter explained so that the blonde in the pool could actually understand.
"Okay..." Dalton said the confusion seasoning his voice.
"Dude, Art class, you two. Swimming pool, you two. Duh." Hunter once again explain the significant of the new knowledge.
Dalton sighed as he stared up at Hunter and Andrew from the sideline of the pool.
"I'm done scheming, guys. I'm giving up." Dalton sighed out, flipping on to his back into the water then swam away.
Soon the period and he had to get ready for Arts class. On his way to his locker, drying his hair with a towel, he stopped to talk to Cole.
"Okay, I'm sorry but I have to say something to you and if by the time I'm done you want to punch me in the face then just do it." Dalton quickly exclaimed.
Cole was confused and irritated but he decide to just get this out of the way and then never speak to him again.
"Okay" said Cole coldly.
"Listen, I'm sorry. This might sound like complete shit to you but I'm really sorry. I mess with your life since day one. I tried to toy with you to make you want to be around me and adore me like others do. I was wrong though you were different and that made you that more interesting. I had to work harder and some stuff got fucked. I treated your existence like a game and I didn't deserve to. I get that you hate me and I deserve it, you should. I wasn't even worthy enough to talk to you in the beginning. I got jealous and cared away and stupid. I didn't mean to hurt you like this. Your friends tried to keep you away. There great friends and if it were me I would've keep you away to. It's just that I thought I could handle my emotions and you but I was wrong; you're different, special. Tell your friends that I'm sorry too, they were only trying to protect you. I'm......I'm sorry." Dalton choked out the last bit.
Cole looked at Dalton silently and saw the tear rolling down his cheek and the ones bubbling in his eyes.
"Goodbye,-" Dalton broke as he was about to say Cole's name but ran off into the bathroom.
Cole stood there not knowing what to do but think. He started walking to Arts class, even though he knew he was late he walked slowly.
Dalton splashed his face with water and let out some deep breaths. He did it.
He left to go to class with his head down. The entire day passed by and Dalton just started feeling shittier by the seconds.
