"What do you think about this one? I kind of like it!" I said after we walked through the only apartment I knew for sure I could afford that wasn't totally rundown.
"I don't know, I don't think it's good enough," Jc said rubbing his hand on the wall, "I bet I could punch through this wall right now! It doesn't seem very high quality."
"Jc!" I exclaimed throwing my hands in the air, "You haven't like one place all day!"
"Well what can I say, I don't want you living in a total dump Sky!" he said in all seriousness.
"Look I can't keep crashing at your place, I'm sure everyone is totally sick of having me there. It would be good for me to have a place of my own anyways." I said heading out the door and examining the empty hallway.
"No one is sick of you! The guys love you! And I love having you by my side every night," Jc followed me out, letting the door slam behind him.
"Hey!" A strange woman yelled from down the hall, "I'm sick of hearing you two! Shut up!"
"Ok, maybe you're right. Not good quality!" I said laughing, as the strange woman headed back inside her apartment. I grabbed Jc's hand pulling behind me as we turned the key back into the front desk. I had been staying at Jc's place for a little over two weeks and although I did enjoy getting to really know him and letting him know the real me. I felt as if I had truly overstayed my welcome, and I honestly wanted a place of my own. One that didn't smell like boy 24/7.
"Maybe I need a roommate!" I exclaimed as we headed down the sidewalk back toward town. "If I had a roommate I could afford a more expensive place and you wouldn't have to worry about me being alone all the time."
"I don't know about that," Jc said, I knew he cared about me deeply but it was hard to reason with him. "I don't think I even know anyone that needs a roommate."
"I could put up like ads or something," I said in my most serious voice, "I bet there are plenty of people on Craigslist looking for a roommate!" Jc's face went from a wide smile to a look of terror.
"Hell no! I don't think so! You'd end up with a rapist or murderer!" his face went to pure terror again. I felt my heart sink a bit, but I couldn't be angry with him, he had only known my story for the past few months and it was one that was going to take some getting used to. "Oh my god."
"Don't say anything! It's ok!" I said before he could get in another word. "Look Jc, I need to figure something out, there has to be someone looking for a roommate in the internet world!"
"I'll see what I can find out and we'll discuss it tomorrow, pinky promise?" Jc said with a smile as we entered town.
"Okay fine, now step two, a job!" I said waving my arms at the various shops. "Which is going to be pretty difficult considering I have never had a job before in my life!"
"Look I've had plenty of jobs, it's not that hard to fake it till you make it. We just have to find something easy like retail or food. You should be able to get that no problem!"
"Look at those losers!" a male voice hollered from behind us. "Lame!" We turned to see Kian and Andrea dying from laughter as the made their way up to us.
"Oh my god! It's Kiandrea!" Jc shrieked like a teenage girl.
"Hey Skylar!" Andrea said to my surprise, Jc had explained my situation to most everyone yet it still caught me off guard when people I met as Olivia called me by my real name, I suppose because I hadn't heard it in so long. "How's LA treating you?" she asked with a flawless smile. Andrea was gorgeous yet perfectly modest about it. Something about standing in the same general area as her made me feel so inferior not because she acted superior but simply because she was beautiful.
"Well I have to say I love it, but I would love it even more if somebody would just let me get an apartment and a job and be an adult." I said pointing at Jc as I spoke.
"I totally support the job part, the apartment thing I am slightly on the fence about." Jc laughed.
"Dude, you should look at the building Jenn and Andrea just moved into! It's awesome," Kian added with enthusiasm.
"You totally should! It's so nice, especially compared to the place Jenn and I lived in before because let me tell ya, that place was literal hell!" Andrea said emphasizing hell.
"You know that's really not a bad idea! At least I would know it's a safe building and the Jenn and Andrea would be there to keep an eye on you when I wasn't around." Jc smiled pulling out his phone. "What's the address? I'm about to google it right now!"
"Jc calm down." Andrea said as she pulled out her phone and handed it to me. "Just give me your number and I will see what I can do, I'll let you know!" My hands shook slightly as I typed in the digits, I was taking a big step and finally making adult choices for myself. Yet part of me wished that my mom was here to help me and that my dad was here to tell me I was his little girl. But I knew that this step was necessary to me staying in LA, I couldn't live at the o2l house forever.
"Thanks Andrea, this really means a lot!" I said handing the phone back to her. "I feel like such an adult, I should start yelling at kids and pinching babies cheeks."
"Ewww, you wanna pinch kids butt cheeks!" Jc said disgusted.
"Ewwwww! What a perv!" Kian yelled with laughter.
I turned to Andrea, "This is a perfect example of why I need a place of my own!" I threw my hands in air, surrendering to the continuous jokes spewing from their lips.
"How long have you been attracted to small children's butts?" Jc said laughing.
"Wait so do you like Jc because his butt reminds you of a small child?" Kian said with a straight face.
"Dude too far!" Jc yelled as we laughed together.
"I wasn't kidding," Kian said seriously, as he pulled out his ringing phone, "We better get going, Jenn and Ricky are blowing up my phone!"
"I'll text you soon Skylar! See ya guys later!" Andrea said as they walked off hand in hand.
"So again step two, a job," I repeated.
"Let's start collecting applications!" Jc said grabbing my hand and leading me to various shops, collecting a stack of job applications that would hopefully lead me to employment.
