My butt felt numb from the uncomfortable office chair, I stared at the floral painting on the wall. Examining every curve of every petal and leaf.

"Skylar?" Melman entered the room, bringing me back to reality. "We need to discuss what's going to happen tonight."

"Ok," I said straightening in my seat and preparing myself for the most serious conversation I would have in my life.

"It is important that when I tell you these things that you focus solely on your directions. And when you're in the moment you need to focus solely on my voice in your ear." Mel said handing me a small black ear piece.

"What is this some kind of chocolate chip?" I laughed, though Mel didn't find my joke funny, I chuckled to myself for a moment before squeezing the piece into my ear.

"Testing," Mel whispered into a small mic on his wrist watch, it boomed loudly through my ear.

"Yeah definitely works!" I laughed holding my ear before removing the piece momentarily.

"Skylar, tonight in approximately 15 minutes we will be leaving in a small black car, you will enter through the driver's side backseat door. You will remain in the seat facing forward, until I stop the car turn it off and tap the steering wheel twice. At this point you will exit the car through the same door you entered you will look forward and follow the girl in the green hooded sweatshirt into the building." Mel paused rubbing his temples, "Do you follow so far?"

"Yes Mel, I may be a pain in your ass but I'm not stupid!" I laughed in an attempt to lighten the mood.

"Alright, once in the building you will be escorted to a dark room, you will barely be able to see your hand in front of you. At this point I will speak to you through your ear piece, when you hear me say move, you will at this point open the door that will be in front of you, it is a push door. Simply push forward with absolute force and run forward, you will stop when I speak through to you, I will only shout stop." Mel paused again, "Do you understand this? I will only be able to shout stop once! You must listen and stop precisely at this moment."

"Got it, I will ignore every other sound except your voice!"

"You say this but it may be harder than it sounds Skylar." He paused again, catching his train of thought, "Once you stop, you must look down and then straight up into the light, it will almost be blinding but it is important that you do it."

"Got it, blind myself." I chuckled, this time earning a grin from Mel.

"This is serious, stay looking up until you feel yourself falling, the floor is going to give out. It will release you to your safety, landing you on an air bag. You must stay there until I personally come get you!" Mel shouted with seriousness.

"Melman?" A suited man said entering the closed door, "It's time."

"Well you heard the man," Mel rose from his seat, holding a vest before me.

"What's that about?" I said pointing to the vest.

"It's for safety ok? Don't worry, it's heavy but after a bit you'll get used to it. Promise." Mel said strapping me in. It took me a moment to realize that it was indeed a bulletproof vest, it frightened me at first but when Mel held forward Jc's sweatshirt my heart stopped. "It's the one you always wear, it will hide the vest well without drawing attention." I slipped the sweatshirt over my head and placed the ear piece back in snuggly to my ear.

"Sir, the car is ready for departure." The suited man announced, my hands began to shake, I squeezed them with force trying to get them to stop. Though my feet moved forward toward the car, I was unable to comprehend how they were moving. My mind was telling them to stop that I need a moment to freak out and be scared, yet they kept shifting forward. My hand shook as I reached for the car door handle, this was the moment I had been waiting for. After this night, I would be free.
