The ride home was longer than normal. My mind was racing with thoughts of Jc and everything that Lia had said. I couldn't help but feel that perhaps I was being to harsh on him. When I ran through the door I was greeted by Aunt Marsha's music blaring, I knew by now that the music meant she was working on an important piece of art. So I went to the guest room not wanting to disturb her artistic process. I laid on the bed shivering, Marsha had a fear of sweating and always kept the house freezing cold. Reaching into the pile of clothes next to my bed to find a hoodie I pulled one out quickly. The soft fabric told me it was Jc's. I hesitated yet put it on anyways. I felt my phone vibrate the bed, looking down to see a text from Andrea.
Hey! It's Andrea! Jenn and I were going to go out for pizza tonight, wanna join? Jenn was disappointed she missed you today.
I sat for a moment before seeing another text bubble appear on the screen.
If you're busy it's okay, we just missed you. Let us know :)
I felt a slight obligation to go. As much as I liked to pretend I enjoyed being alone and independent I knew that I needed to have friends even if it was just for a night.
Yeah, I'll go. Where should I meet you guys?
We'll pick you up! What's the address?
I felt strange about hanging out with Andrea and Jenn for some reason it reminded me of the first time Jc and I had hung out. We had all went to Panera and though I felt awkward the entire time it was the most exciting thing I had done in years. Now making plans with just the two girls, seemed weird. I paused for a moment collecting my thoughts, was it weird because it was like having friends, I thought. I shot a text with the address before jumping up to get ready. An hour had passed before I heard the horn honk of Jenn's car. I ran out of the room and down the hall to my surprise the music had stopped.
"Hey where do you think you're off to?" Aunt Marsha was at the sink washing vegetables.
"Dinner with some friends I met back when I first moved out here." I replied pulling my purse over my shoulder.
"Oh," I heard disappointment in her voice. "Well I suppose I will just order some take out." She paused turning the water off and throwing the various vegetables in the fridge. "Well be safe Skylar, call me if you need anything. Have fun, you deserve it, ok?"
"Ok, love you." I said turning toward the door.
"Love you too." Marsha replied quickly.
I turned the knob with a deep breath, this would be the first time I would be out in public with others in so long I wasn't sure I would remember how to be social. I pulled open the car door to the backseat.
"Hey! Oh my gosh, I couldn't belive Andrea when she told me she saw you!" Jenn said looking at me through the rearview mirror as she took off down the road.
"I was surprised to see her, but not surprised you guys moved, I know you hated that place." I laughed.
"Yeah that place was awful," Andrea said with a sigh. "We'll have to show you the house sometime but tonight Lauren and Arden are having some party shit and trust me they are just gonna drive everyone including the neighbors nuts so we're avoiding that place."
"Yeah they are both pretty big partiers but it's whatever. They're great girls and the house is fab. Everyone around here is moving really."
"That's what Andrea said," I replied staring out the window, I had hoped she wouldn't mention Jc.
"Well we're about to take you out for some bonk ass pizza and then we will see what the night holds!" Jenn yelled as she pulled into the parking lot of a tiny pizza joint that almost looked run down.
"Trust us, this place isn't pretty but the pizza here is the best in the state!" Andrea yelled hopping out of the car.
"Shoot best in the world," Jenn argued.
"I'll trust you guys!" I laughed as we walked up the counter to order. It was order by slice so I had the girls pick me out something new and interesting to try. I ended up with a mexican chicken pizza. I had to admit they knew what the were talking about it was definitely the best I had ever had.
"The slices are too big!" Jenn yelled throwing down about half of the abnormally large slice onto her plate.
"For real, as good as it is and as much as I want to eat it all, I can't!" I laughed throwing the remains of mine onto my plate.
"You guys are wimps!" Andrea smiled as she finished off her slice, "Also I haven't ate all day."
"The guys are having a house warming party! Ricky just sent me the invite! Wanna go?" Jenn sounded excited and I hated to break her excited but there was no way I was going to a party at Jc's house.
"Umm," Andrea shot death glares at Jenn kicking her beneath the table. "There's probably something better to do!"
"Shit, sorry." Jenn said looking down, she felt almost as awkward as I did.
"Guys, if you want to go I can have my Aunt pick me up. It's no biggie."
"We aren't going! Right Jenn?" Andrea announced.
"Right," she sounded disappointed.
"Besides Kian will be there and I'm not trying to dig into that can of worms tonight." Andrea said looking down at the table, her eyes still looked sad.
"Look guys thanks for inviting me out tonight, it was really sweet of you guys. But I know deep down the both of you or at least one of you, wants to be at that party and I'm not the type to hold anyone back so go, have fun!" I used my best cheery voice. "Besides my Aunt would probably be excited to pick me up, she was kinda bummed I left earlier anyways."
"Are you sure about this?" Jenn questioned yet I heard the bit of hope in her voice.
"Yeah totally." I said choking down the emotions.
"Ok, well I guess we're headed to a party." Andrea said standing.
"Text us whenever you're free! We really do enjoy hanging out with you!" Jenn said before jumping up and practically running to her car.
"Are you sure you don't want to come?" Andrea questioned again.
"Positive."
"Kian is my ex and he'll be there so it's kind of the same thing. We could be there for each other."
"Nah, it's ok. I'm just gonna get a soda and call my Aunt."
"Ok, I'll text you soon and we'll do something fun. I promise!" Andrea said before heading to the car.
I sat alone at the table, though I had felt somewhat alone all night now it was for real. I looked at my phone and thought about calling Marsha but instead called for a cab. I needed a bit of alone time to think.
