"Wait, so you actually talked to her?" Calum asks me, throwing down his half eaten mozzarella stick onto the thin white tray. We had both just been roaming around down town looking for comic books all day, something we did a lot. I had been hooked on many different anime series in the past so I guess when I got Cal into it we just started reading them together.

"Oh no, Calum. She talked to me." His breath hitched, eyes widening.

"Did she really?" He says and leans closer to me trying to observe if I was telling the truth.

"I'm telling you man. Bit of a twist though brother, her locker.. Is right next to mine." I hear Calum gasp.

"Well well well, what did she say then? Go on." He enquires.

"Nothing much. She was just having trouble with her locker on Tuesday and I just helped her get it open." I cross my arms with a cheeky smirk. I felt as if I was the king of the world. My mind had gone far with the few words she said to me, though it wasn't even that big of a deal. I had always made things bigger then they seemed, but it's only because I didn't ask for much attention, not drawing me into things, especially things to be this excited about. I was too later back for it I guess.

"Ash, maybe she likes you, bro." He says, excessively using his little nickname for me again.

"Oh yeah, man. Maybe I should get blessing from her parents, how's it sound? Am I going too fast, do you think?" I say trying to hold in my laugh.

Calum snorts and continues to eat his meal as I pull out the extra flimsy book I always keep in my back pocket. I had read it over twenty times at least. The comic was one of my favorites, though it wasn't very popular, actual books getting more popular as well as things on the internet. Nobody seemed to have time to read them besides me. It was just one if my daily hobbies.

As I was scanning the small pictures on the page, the small bell on top of the double doors chimed, a group of teenagers trudging through. I immediately reacted by shoving my face deeper into the magazine-like book.

"Calum, look." I whispered to the boy across the table, stopping him from taking another bite into his ham sandwich. Calum's head turns to face the clique of friends, quickly he tried I hide his face with the small paper menu that has been resting on the table.

"Shit" he mutters. "Just wait until they pass us, keep your head down, Ash." He says between a whisper and a yell.

As my nose holds hostage in the deep crack of the book, I peek my eyes out from behind it, just to get a look at them. They were all standing behind the counter, Luke resting his elbows on the top surface of the cash register, looking like he was trying to decide what he should get for himself and the bunch. Michael had his arm rested on Harley's shoulder, his lips seemingly close to her ear, whispering things in it to make her giggle.

Rae stood back from the group resting behind them all, her left leg relaxed as the other one held her up. She picked at her nails in concentration, scraping off the black nail polish without thinking. She eventually looked up, her eyes drifted around the room, trying to discover it. She has obviously never been here before.

My face tensed up, terrified as her eyes met mine. I briskly bring my face down, the book basically covering up my head. I heard her boot zippers dangle as she jaunted toward us. I unfroze in my seat eventually, finally giving up and rolling up the small comic up in my hands and cram it into my back pocket to keep her from seeing it, though she probably already saw the cover.

"Calum shes coming over here, be cool." My best friend gulps. Rae's hands slammed on the table, her body leaning over for her face to meet mine. She clicked her tongue as she smiled at me.

"Hey Irwin, what are you doing here, man?" She questions.

"I uhm, I was just coming here to eat y'know." I state awkwardly. Damn, way to be confident. At least I didn't stutter.

"Cool, so you are.." She angels her head to Calum, one eyebrow raising up in the process.

"This is Calum. H-he's my best friend." There goes the stutter.

"Hi." He says under his breath.

"Cool, see 'ya guys Monday or something, yeah?" She asks, but before either of us could respond she walks back to the blabbering Luke and the two hormonal teenagers.

"Oh my god, man." Calum says to me.

"I know, I hadn't actually expected her to even notice me."

I was actually in utter shock. Just her talking to me on Tuesday made me go absolutely insane, but just the fact that she saw my face and knew who I was right away made my heart melt. No one had ever actually acknowledge me unless it was Calum. Not even my own parents cared as much.

So the day went on, Luke and his other friends not noticing us after Rae had talked to us. I walked home after a while, Calum and I both splitting as we hit the neighborhood. The roads were silent, sidewalks plain with nobody on it. It always gave me time to think. Just walking alone, nobody there I bug you. Especially in my neighborhood. It was practically filled with old women and children. It wasn't much of a rich neighborhood, town houses didn't have much of a wealthy look to them anyway.

I was secretly hoping that she would speak to me on Monday. I mean if she can notice me once, she can notice me again, right? I wanted to know Rae. I wanted to know the way she eats and the way she talks around her parents and I just wanted to know everything. She was so interesting to me in a way I didn't expect. All I needed I do was get her away from Luke Hemmings.
