Rae's Point of View

-

"Why are you ignoring him?" Harley asks. We had been walking on the side of the road for about a half an hour since school started and we were headed to the super market to pick up milk for my dad.

"I don't want to, I just can't let him get hurt." I tell with truth in my tone. I had thought about things long and hard and I couldn't risk the pain of Ashton getting fucked up mentally or physically by me.

"How could he possibly getting hurt?" Harley questions.

"Luke, myself, anything. Ashton's a good boy and I'm not taking that away from him. End of conversation." I tell Harley, probably looking crazy as I flail my arms all over the place.

Harley shuts her mouth and proceed to walk down the route to the food-lion. It wasn't far, but Harley and I always walked everywhere anyways. I had my own license but it was better to walk around instead of exercise, which I didn't have the time for.

It took us almost an hour to get to the store, the parking lot wasn't filled seeing as how it was a week day. It was now about 7:00pm and I still hadn't considered telling Ashton that I didn't want to study tonight. I didn't think he would mind or that he would wait for me but I felt bad for not letting him know. It was hard enough just to 'ignoring' him. This boy really had a trigger on me and he was the only one that could pull it.

Harley and I walk into the store, the warmth of the shop causing us to feel better. It was pretty cold outside and carrying our school bags filled with books just made the small trip even worse.

"I have to go to the bathroom, can you just get a single gallon and meet me at the cash register?" I lie. Harley rolled her eyes, then pranced off to one of the refrigerated isles, her boots making loud stomping noises as she took each step.

As soon as I lost sight of Harley, I slowly made my way through the isles of the store. No suspicious came from anyone as I slipped into the magazine isle. At the end if the isle was where the medicine was located, so I scurries toward the pills and scanned them down for some ibuprofen.

I soon spotted the white bottle with the navy blue writing on the front and reached for the top shelf, but I couldn't budge. I went on my toes harder and harder but simply couldn't reach the bottle, so I asked for help.

I looked around the isle, seeing a tall older man about in his fifties or so, but he looked nice, so I tapped his shoulder. The bald man turned around, towering over me and smiled.

"Excuse me, sir, I can't seem to reach that bottle of ibuprofen on the too shelf, could you get it for me?" I crossed my arms, giving the most fake smile I could put on and pouted. The mans smile dropped as if he was suspicious of something.

"Sure, kid." He waltz past me to get the pill bottle and when he's darkest away, I take a look at his cart. He didn't have much but he had what looked like a pair of boot laces. My laces were now covered in dirt and you couldn't even tell that they were Matt black anymore. I couldn't help myself from grabbing the small package and slipping it into my jean pocket.

My hands helped themselves toward the mans property and slid it deep into the back of my pocket.

"Here 'ya go, young lady." The man shocked me from behind. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard his voice so close to me. I turn around to see the man gently smoking at me.

"Thank you, sir." I feel my palms begin to sweat as I fish the bottle of pills out of the mans hand. I then smile at the man and swiftly walk past him without looking back.
