For the pass time in which Rae and I had been together, between the time I lost my virginity to her, to now, we'd been pretty optimistic about the future. We were trying not to worry about what was ahead of our relationship, about the dead-ends in life or about tragedy in general. So it was pretty disappointing to hear those words.
Not five minutes ago had I gotten a text from Harley say Rae was in deep shit, and I was already half way down Calum's neighborhood. I knew it wasn't anything I did, or at least I hope it isn't anything I did because I hadn't done anything wrong, but I was still very worried.
The weather was so harsh, trying my best to ignore my fingertips turning purple as I held onto the bag with Rae's vinyl in it. I knew it was stupid to bring it to her at a time like this, because I didn't even know how bad her situation was, but I couldn't help myself.
After Harley texted me about Rae, I immediately jumped up. I even almost pushed Calum down while I rushed to his room to put my shoes on. He was confused for a while, and I didn't have much time to speak, so I led his house mumbling, quite fast, Rae'sInTroubleGottaGoBye.
He knew my protection over Rae and how I got very defensive over her, so he obviously let me go.
I was walking extremely fast, and my feet were fucking numb as well as my hands, but I still kept trudging through the snow-filled sidewalk to try and get to her as quick as possible.
I then decided it would be best for me to contact Harley and ask if I should call her or something. So after whipping my phone out from my back pocket, and dialed Harley's number, and raised the phone up to my ear.
The phone rang almost right times, and I was about to hang up, but just in time, Harley's voice came into shot.
"Ashton?" She asks in a worried tone.
"Yeah, what the hell is wrong with Rae, is she hurt? Is she alright?" I question quite swiftly.
"I-I don't know she just called me crying and started mumbling shit into the phone I couldn't pronounce and she said something a-about her dad, a-and-" she cuts herself off with a sigh, her voice quivering into the other end of the phone. "I'm scared, dude." She says, and it's almost impossible for me to calm myself down at this point.
"Did he hurt her? Is he gone?" I ask.
"I-I think he's gone, but I'm not sure what he did." She says, and I could hear he cries on the other side.
"Alright, I'm almost at her house, so I'll shoot you a text when I find out what's going down, alright?" I say, in almost a soothing voice. I was jumpy as can be, but Harley was freaking out, and I couldn't deal with two emotional girls at the same time.
"A-alright. Bye." She says, and right before the line shuts off, I hear her whale. He really cares about her friend.
I didn't even give myself enough time before I shoved my phone back into my pocket, and started lightly jogging down the remainder of the street, and onto the next. I was now on Rae's block, and I couldn't almost see her house.
It was pitch black outside, and the only source of light I had was the illumines spots from the street lamps next to every other house. But it didn't stop me. I kicked at the snow aggressively as I jogged the rest of the way to her house. My hands were basically ice, and there was no feeling to them at all.
I was almost a foot away from Rae's house, and there was no sign of her father. His car wasn't in the driveway and the TV in the front living room wasn't on like it usually was when he was here.
The door was unlocked when I got to the front of the house, and when I touched it, my fingertips literally froze. I contemplated whether I should just barge in with no warning or not. I didn't want to scare Rae, so I simply just knocked three times before stepping back and waiting for somebody to answer the door.
