You weren't a people person. Hell the last time you willingly went to a social function you had to be dragged by your best friend. Long story short, however, you just weren't into people. It totally wasn't because you were socially awkward or anything.
It took you a long time before you were semi-comfortable around people. You had to trust them with your life. When you initially met Sam and Dean, you were intimidated. They were two very attractive men and seemed to be confident in what they were doing. You didn't know how to respond.
After helping them in a hunt, as your friend couldn't come along and it was far too dangerous for you to go by yourself, you were a bit more okay. Sure it took a good year of working alongside them before you were able to act normally, but that's just how you were.
When you were first introduced to Castiel, a literal angel from the Lord, you were once again at a loss of how to react. Once more there was an attractive man, the only difference was this man didn't know much about the ways of humans. Like you. He was awkward without even realizing it. You found it oddly appealing to put it lightly and you kinda liked the guy. Hell if you were better with feelings you'd even say you had some resemblance of puppy love for him.
Sadly, you were an awkward individual. Liking someone that you didn't know well and being socially awkward...it was never good. So you did what you normally did by default. You acted cold and uncaring, never talking to him or interacting with him. You stuck alongside Sam and Dean and just tried to pretend Castiel wasn't there. You were petrified if you were to talk to him you'd say something stupid, or do something stupid. You couldn't have that so you just ignored him.
The plan was working wonders until today when you were working alongside Sam and Dean in their bunker and they both looked over at you.
"Hey, we need to go on a hunt, and it's best if you stay behind," Dean said while scratching the back of his head and you looked a bit offended as you hated it when he doesn't think you can handle a hunt.
"Why not? You know I'm a valuable asset to your team." You said with arms crossed as you mad dogged him.
"Wow, hold the glare, tiger, we're only saying this because we're going after an incubus," Dean said and it clicked in your head why he wanted you to sit this one out.
"Ah, got it, I'll just stay here then." You said and after a while, the brothers left. You say uncomfortably on the couch while continuing to do research on missing people in an area in Kentucky. The reason why you were uncomfortable is that it hadn't just been you and the boys in the bunker. Castiel happened to be there too. He wasn't going on the hunt.
It was uncommon for Castiel to stick around if Dean wasn't around, or even Sam, so your mind drifted a bit while scrolling through some news articles. You looked over and noticed he was staring over at you. You froze up and looked back to the computer screen, pink slightly dusting your cheeks.
'Please don't talk to me, please don't talk to me.' you repeated the mantra in your head over and over again while pretending to research, not actually being able to focus on it. You could feel his stare on you and you didn't know why your heart was acting all weird because of that. Was it the anxiety? You concluded you had some form of feelings for him, could that be it? Did that make heart rates accelerate?
You were now confused and didn't realize it when Castiel came closer until he was very much in your personal bubble. The gruff coughing from him snapped you out of the confused daze and you looked up only to be met with Castiel's stomach.
You made a startled noise and backed up on the couch until you were firmly pressed against the arm rest at the farthest end, "Cas, c-come on per-personal space." You stuttered out with rosy cheeks and he frowned as he continued looking at you.
"You dislike me." he suddenly said, making you pause for a moment and you made eye contact for only a brief second before averting your eyes. Eye contact was no good.
"H-how you come u-up with th-that?" You stuttered again as you decided to focus on the empty space next to his head.
"I'm the only one in the group you refuse to talk to, so I concluded that you disliked me. As we have to work together I thought it best to bring it up and resolve the issue. Dean told me working with people who don't get along can put us in dangerous situations." Castiel explained and you inwardly groaned as you'd have to explain to him.
"L-look Cas I uh, I don't particularly, um how do I, uh I-I don't have a-anything uh damn one s-sec I got-gotta think ugh fuck." You said as you tried to find the words but talking to him was probably one of the hardest things you had to do in a long time. You were okay with quick word exchanges with him when Sam and Dean were around, but this was an actual conversation.
"I d-don't particularly ha-have a dis-like towards uh you I just um don-don't know how to um arti-articulate m-my feelings um all to uh well and w-when I uh don't know som-someone I uh tend to ugh fuck I tend to be dist-distant." It took a while for the words to get out and you weren't sure if he'd understand with how much you stuttered.
"So you ignore me because I make you uncomfortable?" He asked thoughtfully, as though it was something he had never heard before.
"Yes, it's uh noth-nothing personal I a-actually-." You stopped yourself as you almost confessed your feelings towards the man. This was a huge no go for you. He was an angel and they didn't really 'love' people in the way that humans would want. They can find them fascinating but they have a superiority complex.
"You stopped mid-sentence," Castiel noted and you squeaked a bit as your whole face turned red and you hid your face with your hands in an attempt to hide.
"Y-ya it happens." You said while looking away from him and slowly going to grab your computer in an attempt to shut down the conversation.
"Then if you don't dislike me, I'd like to become friends?" Castiel wasn't sure if that was the right thing to say but as Dean and Sam claimed to be his friends and he enjoyed it, the thought of being friends with you made him undeniably happy. He had actually been, strangely enough, hurt with how you acted towards him. He came up not because of what Dean said, but because he wanted to know why she hated him. He was relieved to find out that wasn't the case.
"F-friends?" You asked as though it was foreign on your tongue. You had a very small pool of friends and an even smaller pool of those you still talked to on a regular basis. Castiel actually wanted to be part of your life other than working together?
"Yes, Dean said that was the first step to building a strong bond." Castiel lied, as he really just wanted to be closer to you. He wasn't sure what his feelings were, as he had never had them before coming down to earth, but he did know he had a desire to be close to you. If being friends was the first step he'd take it. Perhaps he'd consult Dean about the things he felt at a later date when it was convenient.
"W-well I um I'd li-like that I gue-guess." You said between a blush and made eye contact with him again very briefly before looking down at your lap as though it were interesting or something.
"Thank you, would it be already if I sat here while you worked?" Castiel said while looking towards the other side of the couch, and instead of verbally responding you nodded your head and he took a seat. There weren't any more words exchanged and the atmosphere was extremely awkward, but a part of you was screaming with joy. How odd.

Hey beautifuls, this was a request made by @jessiedisneygeek so thank you very much I enjoyed writing this a lot as I happen to be extremely socially awkward. The stuttering and blushing is how I communicate if I'm not behind a computer screen.
Anyone want me to make a part two? I didn't want them to jump into romance because let's face it, if you're socially awkward that's not going to happen super fast. It takes a while. Gotta test the waters and become comfortable with the other.
Also, remember I do take requests so head over to the chapter named Requests or whatever and shoot me a comment of what you want to be written!
