Star gazers

I look at Mackenzie with empathy "Come in." Mackenzie sits on the couch crying. I hand her a box of tissues and she blows her nose. Mascara droops down her face "Why did he break up with you?" Mackenzie cries harder "I hic don't know! Something about our relationship being toxic! Like its not fun and he's bored." I roll my eyes and frown "Yeah sounds like Jake." I get up and bring Mackenzie a plate of fried rice and orange chicken. "Here I heard when someone is sad food helps." Mackenzie takes the plate and looks at me "Why are you being so nice to me?" I look down "Well I...I don't hold grudges. You were in need of help and using the past as an excuse to not help you would be wrong." Mackenzie smiles "I'm sorry for how I treated you. Even though this isn't a good excuse that day Jenny got me all fired up and Jake was just so comfortable around you and I snapped." I look at Mackenzie "I don't blame you though I probably wouldn't have done anything if I was in the situation." Mackenzie smiles "Are you dating Ethan?" My face turns red "No.." Mackenzie frowns "Aw too bad. I think you two would make a better couple than him and Jenny...Oh don't tell Jenny I told you that!" I laugh "It's ok I don't talk to her." Mackenzie sighs "Anyway I came to see if you could talk to Jake about it." I look at her "Me? But.." Mackenzie has a desperate look on her face "Please! Even if he says something mean I want you to tell me exactly what he says...so I can put my heart at ease." I nod my head "Ok I will." Mackenzie gets up and so do I. She hugs me "Thank you Luna." I look at her and smile "Your welcome." Mackenzie smiles "Wow i've never seen you smile like that before it's pretty." Mackenzie grabs her purse and slips on her flats "Oh and thank you for the food it helped with the coping." I wave goodbye and Mackenzie leaves. "That's the 5th time i've been told my genuine smile is pretty. I guess Augustus was right. Helping others...It feels great to do that." I put on a sweater and joggers and some adidas shoes. I walk next door to Jake's house and knock on the door. Jake's mom opens the door "Luna! You finally came over." I smile "Is Jake home?" She smiles "Yeah just go straight up to his room." I walk up the steps. Everything is the same since we were kids... I open the door to see Jake with his shirt off on top of a girl with only a bra and skirt on. "...Wow this isn't good time i'll text you later!" My face turns red from embarrassment and I run out of the house and into the front yard breathing heavily. "That idiot I forgot he's a man." Jake runs outside with his shirt on backwards "Don't tell my mom." I laugh "How can you do that when your mom is home?" Jake smiles and then I walk towards him and punch him in the stomach "You idiot. Mackenzie came to my house crying her eyes out that you broke up with her and I find you here in bed making moves on calamity Jane?" Jake looks at me "Why do you care Mackenzie caused you nothing but trouble." I look at Jake "That's not the point! The point is you moved on and tossed her to the side and all I want to know is....Why?" Jake looks at me "What if I told you..You were the reason why I broke up with her." I stare at Jake "I would hate you because that is putting a burden on me." Jake looks at me "Luna.." I look at him "Don't be like Augustus! DON'T BREAK UP WITH YOUR GIRLFRIENDS BECAUSE THEY KEEP B*TCHING AT ME! Because when they cry and ask what went wrong I'm the person to be blamed!" I turn around "Now go have your fun." Jake watches as I walk in the opposite direction to my house "Your home is right there!" I wave my hand in a dismissing manner "I'm not going home! I'm going star gazing!" Jake smiles "I'll come with you!" I turn around "What about your company?" Jake smiles "Mom there's a half naked girl in Jake's room!" I laugh as Jake runs over to me "So you imitated your brother Alex." Jake fixes his shirt and smiles "Yup works every time I have too much fun." I gag "What a f*ck boy." Jake frowns "Don't call me that." I scoff "Well if you didn't act like the way you do then maybe.." Jake scoffs "Fine then Ethan is a f*ck boy." I stop walking and turn around "OH? You don't say." Jake sticks his tongue out at me and I laugh. When we reach the park I sit on top of the monkey bars. Jake comes up with me. "The stars are beautiful." Jake looks up at "When I look at the stars all I think of is you." I smirk "When I watch law and order svu and the rapist are on trial all I think of is you." Jake grabs me by my ear "Listen up there ain't no girl alive who would wake up to see me in their bed and call it rape." I laugh "I bet you got some type of STD by now." Jake growls "Why are you so mean to me?" I look at Jake "I'm mean to Ethan to...and Artemis but not Apollo because Apollo is a good kid." Jake looks at me "Would you date a f*uckboy?" I look at the stars "The heart wants what it wants." Jake looks up at the stars "How often did you do this after Augustus died?" I smile "Everyday for the past 5 years...You know i'll never forget what he told me that day. He said "Luna don't be afraid to love." I didn't care for what he said until I returned to the convenience store." Jake puts his arm around me "If you love him then why won't you tell him?" I sigh "It's because it's hard for me to trust people." Jake frowns "But you must trust him since you told him about Augustus so abruptly last time at his house." I look at Jake "How did you know?" Jake smiles "He told me and asked me if I knew." I smile "You know if you weren't so keen on short term relationships I think there's a girl out there who you could make you really happy." Jake looks at the sky "I don't know...I think that girl is leaving me behind." I laugh and hit him on the head "Idiot you don't know until you meet her." Jake looks at me "I have-....Your right I won't know until I meet her."
