Hello, TheShadowNight c: Thanks for voting on chapters 1-9! :D (12/9/14)
~~~{Adam's P.O.V}~~~
(}[Two hours and fifty-five minutes later]{)
"Will he live?!" I asked the nurse hurriedly.
The nurse nodded. "He will. He can leave as soon as he wakes up. Why did he...." She gestured to Mitch's cuts. "Why did he do it?"
"His friends were mad at him and they started arguing with him. It wasn't his fault. I didn't say anything. His girlfriend asked me to check on him...and then I found this."
The nurse nodded again thoughtfully. "Mitchell should probably stay with his girlfriend for a while, so he doesn't get the urge to cut again. Even then, his girlfriend should probably monitor him constantly. Make sure she feeds him lots of sugar to help his blood recover. Maybe she should take him somewhere fun, like a skating rink or an arcade, so he can appreciate how lucky he is."
"Okay." I smiled at her and she left the room.
I stared at Mitch's cuts. There were four in all, not very deep but very wide. He must have fainted from the blood loss. The nurse took the bandages off because they had to change it, but I was pretty sure that nurse simply forgot to do it. Stupid nurse.
I couldn't help feeling like I let him down. I could have stopped this. I wished I could go back in time to change it...
All it would have taken is a simple "Destiny is a kind girl. She is NOT a player. Every girl needs guy friends and girl friends. Shut your mouths because you're all just jealous of Mitch, and you should not be jealous of one of your best friends." but I couldn't do it. I couldn't say it.
But... How did I know that Destiny didn't cut too? I didn't.
"Oh my god!" Destiny covered her eyes with her hands. "Will he live?!"
"Yeah," I nodded. "The nurse said he should live with you for a while, and you should take him to fun places so he knows how lucky he is."
"When can he come home?" A tear slipped from under Destiny's eye.
"Whenever he wa-"
"Why am I here?" Mitch asked weakly.
"You're all right!" Destiny bent down to hug Mitch, who smiled a little.
"Of course I'm all right." Mitch rubbed his eyes with his left hand. "I love you."
"Why did you do it?" Destiny asked gently.
Mitch didn't answer.
"Why did you do it." Destiny said sternly, not saying it like a question.
"I-I don't know...," Mitch said shakily. "All of my best friends were mad at me for something I didn't do. My girlfriend hated herself..." He trailed off.
Destiny's expression softened. "Are you ready to go home?" She asked softly.
Mitch nodded, throwing off his thin white blanket and getting up. "Yeah."
"Come on. I'll be feeding you lots of sweets at my house---the nurse told us that you should stay with your girlfriend---and we'll probably go..." She talked to Mitch as they left the room.
I sighed and smoothed out the blanket absentmindedly. I didn't want to face the rest of the guys right now.
I threw my car keys onto the kitchen counter and sighed, knowing that as soon as I walked up the stairs, I would get bombarded by the guys' questions.
I turned around and walked up the stairs, bracing myself.
Surprisingly, no one said anything until I walked into my room and sat down on my bed.
"Adam!" Jerome barked, appearing in my doorway.
"What?" I asked wearily.
"How's Mitch? What happened to him?"
Oh. Right. I had just thrown Mitch into my car and sped toward the nearest hospital, not telling anyone where I went.
Jerome did call me, though, and asked where Mitch and I were. I told him the hospital and then I hung up. He probably had told the rest of the guys by now.
"Mitch is okay. He's out of the hospital."
Jerome peered into my room as if he expected Mitch to be in there. "Where is he?!"
"He's at Destiny's house." I could have smiled at Jerome's disgusted expression.
"That girl is not good for him!" Jerome remarked with distaste.
"She. Is. Fine!" I hissed through gritted teeth. "You're just jealous of Mitch, aren't you!" I yelled the last two words.
"No she's not." Jerome said seriously, ignoring my last words. "She's a player." Then he said under his breath, "just like Mitch used to be..."
"Mitch used to be a player!?" I exclaimed. "And you didn't tell every girl he dated that he wasn't good for her?!"
"Um..." Jerome glanced around nervously. "No...,"
"Then why did you tell Destiny that if you think she's a player?!"
Jerome flinched. "Look, can you just drop it?!"
"No." I glared at him. "In fact, I'll tell the rest of the guys what you just told me."
I got up, having no intention of carrying out my threat. Jerome would protect his best friend no matter what, and that's what I was counting on.
Jerome's eyes widened, and he moved and blocked the doorway with his body. "No! I'll do whatever you want! Just don't tell them!"
I could imagine what Jerome was thinking: I promised Mitch I'd never tell anyone!
"How about this." I crossed my arms. "You totally forgive Destiny for whatever you think you think she's done and you go over to her house and apologize to her. She has to believe you. Then I won't tell anyone."
I could see the defeat in Jerome's eyes. "When do I apologize to Destiny?"
"You can do it right now." I sat back down on my bed. "And while you're there, you can find out what happened to Mitch and why he was in the hospital for three hours."
"Okay." Jerome sighed and walked out of my door and downstairs.
Okay, I think I might stop saying "Don't forget to vote if you liked it! :D" after each chapter. I'm just saying it because I, as a reader, always forget to vote for other authors' stories.
