"Get up Blair honey or you're gonna be late!" My moms voice shouted.
I groan as I remove the comforter from my legs and make baby dinosaur noises as I stretch.
Honestly, who doesn't?
I get up from bed, putting on my fuzzy bunny slippers, and stood in front of my closet. I opened it and took out a pair of gray skinny jeans, my black and white 'City Girl' crop top and paired it with my black converse. I brushed my hair and tied it up in a messy bun and walked inside the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and applied a light amount of makeup. I grabbed my backpack and purple hoodie and jogged downstairs.
"Hey mom, hey dad." I said greeting my parents
"Morning honey." My mom said kissing my forehead, laying a plate of pancakes in front of me.
"Morning." My dad said, not looking up from his newspaper.
"Hey there Daisy." I say patting my dog.
Our family's breakfast was usually quiet because nobody was awake enough to keep talking. I took the last bite of my pancakes and stood up from the table.
"Bye guys." I say kissing my parents.
"Stay safe Blair." They say in unison.
"Yup!" I shout from the door. I grab my penny board and close the door. Since school was a few minutes away, I didn't need to take the bus or a car.
Halfway to school a school bus passed me and people started to make fun of me.
"Hey guys! It's brace face!" A boy pointed. The people in the bus started to laugh and throw things at me. Empty bottles and cans, crumpled paper with words like "freak" or "bitch" written on them, basically anything they could find.
I didn't mind them of course. But deep down, I wanted to scream at their faces to shut the fuck up. But I just couldn't find the courage to.
One person threw an empty can at me and it knocked my glasses off, causing me to stop and look for them.
"Loser!" Someone shouted at the bus rode away.
"Immature." I mumbled as I put on my glasses and continued skating.
I arrived at the school doors 10 minutes before the first bell. I walked inside the school to a crowded hallway, full of students laughing and telling stories. their eyes followed me and I heard some talking about me.
"Still the same freak." One girl said to her friends.
"What a joke. She's still a loner." Another would say.
"She's the silent slut right?"
"What a nerd. Cursed with an ugly face. Rich bitch if you ask me."
Everyday it was like this when I entered. The insults kept flying at me but as usual, I ignored them and casually walked to my locker, opening it and stuffing my penny board inside. I emptied my backpack and refilled it with a new set of things I would need for my first few periods.
"Blair!" A familiar voice called. I turned around to see who it was and I saw Beth and Jess running towards me.
"Hi guys." I said smiling.
"What are your first 2 periods?" My friend Beth asked me curiously.
I took out a piece of paper from my bag and checked. "Well, homeroom first, then Math and Biology."
"We all have homeroom first." Jess says exitedly.
"Damn, I have French and English after that" Beth says.
"I have home economics, then I'll see you at Bio Blair." Jess says as a boy shoves her to my locker. "If it isn't swirly!" He says laughing. "Don't touch her! She probably bathed in toilet water!" Another says walking ahead.
Jessica never handles these insults well. Beth and I found out just last year that her cutting was extremely severe. We had to convince her to stop and tried to lighten her mood a lot.
"Dickheads." Beth mumbled. "Don't mind them Jess, they're just immature boys." She said as we started walking to our homeroom class. Jessica although, remained silent.
Then suddenly she spoke. "Why were we made like this? I mean, what did we do to deserve this treatment?"
"Nothing." I said quietly. "It's just..." I said trailing off.
"Life." Beth finishes my sentence.
"Well my grandmother always said to me that God had a plan for all of us, so maybe this nightmare, is just a good dream in disguise." I said trying to lighten up the mood. "Maybe our luck will change this year."
"You're right." Jess says smiling and shaking her head. "Come on. Let's go."
We entered the class and took our usual seats at the back, Jess to my left, and Beth to my right. Soon the first bell rang and other students filled the classroom.
"Wow. We're in high school." Beth said to herself.
It was official. The survival begins.
