"So you guys kissed?" Jessica said as we were on our way to school. I had told them about last night, from the apology to the bluff midnight snack. However, I decided to leave out the part about Carter's sister because obviously, it wasn't my secret to tell.
"I guess." I said trying to make it look like I didn't think much of it.
"Oh my God. He's totally your boyfriend now. You guys are gonna go to prom together and get married and have babies." Bethany exclaimed.
"Eeew Beth! Fuck no." I said in disgust.
"Anyway, I found out that Lily and Connor will be throwing a party this Friday night!" Jessica said.
The Parker twins are known for throwing parties. Every year they throw a huge party that everyone's invited to. There's unlimited booze, games and dancing and their parties usually last until 5am. Obviously, they do it when their parents are out of town and the best thing about it is that they've never been caught once. Every time their parents get home, the house still looks the same. Lily and Connor are known as the party Gods of the century.
"Are we going?" Jessica said. "Lily is nice and she asked me if we were going to go."
"No way." I said sternly. "I totally hate parties now." Which was a lie. I loved going to parties but if I know there are popular people trying to ruin my life then no thanks.
"We just need a way to get them back!" Jessica said as we approached the school. We entered the building and proceeded to our lockers. The pink posters had been ripped of the walls because apparently, it counted as vandalism.
"And anyway, Friday is the day I'm getting my braces of." I told them "so it's a no."
We proceeded to the classroom where we were the first ones to arrive. I sat down and started to study for the English test we had today, and I wasn't able to yesterday thanks to my good friend. We were silent until Bethany suddenly shouted.
"I got it!" She jumped.
"Oh fuck." I said clutching my chest. "What now."
"You're getting your braces off on the same day as the party so here's what we're gonna do!" She said and grabbed a pen and paper. She scribbled vigorously on the pad paper and her handwriting was so messy it was almost impossible to read. Then when she explained further, the plan was actually genius.
"But I don't wanna do that!" I said. I played a very important and yet totally disturbing part in the plan.
"Do you wanna get them back or not?" Beth said. I sat there silently and nodded, convinced that I should play the part.
The rest of the day was spent planning the comeback. We made a list of what we were going to need and we needed a few people to let in on the trick. During lunch time, I quickly informed Carter about it and he accepted as soon as he heard it. We dare didn't talk about the kiss in public so it was a teensy bit awkward for us to be talking.
After school, we left to find the materials needed for the party, which included 3 pretty dresses. We left for the mall just as the final bell rang and after 2 hours worth of shopping, we were done.
"I know it's in a girl's stature to be immune to shopping but I'm absolutely exhausted." Beth complained as we walked home with lots of paper bags dangling on our arms. I nodded in agreement and both of us turned to Jessica who was quiet the entire walk. She seemed to be engaged in a text conversation with someone.
"Hey jessy" Beth sang. "Who ya texting?"
Jessica jerked up from her phone as if she hadn't realized we've been together the entire time. "Oh, just a friend." She said and went back to gazing at her phone.
Beth and I looked at each other with a look of disbelief and nodded in unison. I counted from one to three and Beth suddenly snatched Jessica's phone and ran as fast as possible, with me following her. Jessica, still recovering from the sudden shock, followed us but not as fast as we read the text.
"You're totally text flirting with Dylan!" I shouted. "My two best friends are coming together! How awesome is that?"
"We're not text flirting, we're just... Uhmm.... Really good friends!" She said. Jessica had always been the worst liar and Beth and I didn't believe her fib for a millisecond. Both of us rolled our eyes and headed home.
As usual, I did my night routine of getting ready for bed by brushing my teeth, combing my hair and changing into my favorite macaroon pajamas. I kissed my parents goodnight and headed back for my room. I jumped into my bed happily and surrounded myself with cozy soft cloud-like pillows. I shut my eyes and dozed of.
It wasn't a dream but I was just thinking of how well our plan was, but all the complications we were going to have like keeping it a secret and setting it all up at the Parker household. There were many things we hadn't planned out thoroughly but the general details were fine. I could imagine the faces of those snotty- popular people getting a taste of their own medicine.
And then Carter came into my mind. His beautiful smile, and the way he brushed his hair out of his face, it was like a dream.
More like a hallucination.
I realized that I almost knew nothing about him. I didn't now his past life and the people who were in it. What if he was a playboy and in no time, he would get bored of me and move on to a much prettier girl? It was likely to happen. I never experienced someone liking me for me. It was always about the money. But I convinced myself that I could never end up with someone like him.
Although part of me hoped to.
