It was Wednesday today and I was in History when suddenly, our teacher needed to use the bathroom. He left and said we he would be back in a few minutes. After he left, the classroom immediately erupted with noise. I was just about to start reading my new book Paper Towns by John Green, until I felt someone behind me give a gentle tap.
I spun around to see that Taylor Sparks, the girl who originally sat behind me, switched places with Carter.
"Hi." He said to me.
"Oh... Uhh.. Hi." I said as friendly as possible.
"Paper Towns huh?" He said folding his arms.
"Uhm.. Yeah.." I said.
"Nice isn't it?"
"I haven't read it yet."
"Well, it is for me."
Wait.
So you're telling me, we just had a fight a couple of days ago and he has completely forgotten about it? It's either that or he just doesn't want to apologize.
Jerk.
"So anyway, how are you?"
"Oh I'm alright." HA no I'm not you bastard. "You?"
"Oh I'm fine." He said smiling. It was awkwardly silent now.
"So anyway..." He said "did you hear about Michael's party?"
"Oh yeah." I said nonchalantly. "Well who hasn't?"
"Are you going?" He asked, then our teacher suddenly entered the room and told us to hush.
Five minutes after that, I felt him kick my foot softly and saw a little piece of paper slide under my foot. I slowly picked it up and read it under my table so that it wouldn't seem like we were passing notes.
It said:
Are you going to the party?
I grabbed a pen and scribbled something without looking at the paper. I folded it neatly and slid it backwards with my foot.
Yes why?
This happened over and over again until the bell rang.
The paper said:
C: Are you going to the party?
B: Yeah why?
C: Who with?
B: Beth, Jess and Thomas.
C: Thomas? Thomas who?
B: Willows stupid he's the only guy named Thomas.
C: I thought he didn't even know your name.
B: Well apparently, he does now.
C: Do you wanna go to Starbucks instead of attending?
B: What? No. Thomas asked me and I said yes. Plus Jess and Beth would kill me.
C: Don't go. I have a bad feeling about this.
That's when I got pissed off.
Does he think he can earn my trust back after ditching me after a fight and not apologizing for it? I was not about to take advice from this guy. Any guy but not this guy.
I Crumpled the paper and kept it under my desk.
After an hour or so, the lunch bell rang and I sprinted out of the room. I knew Carter was about to talk to me but, fortunately for me, I was faster than him.
I met up with Bethany and Jessica at our usual table and told them about the note.
"Coincidence much." Jessica had told me.
"Does he know something that we don't?" Beth asked as she ate her Macaroni and Cheese.
"Maybe. I just wanna enjoy that night okay?" I told them.
"We know Blair. We'll be there too anyway." Beth said with a mouthfuls of her lunch.
"Much more comforting knowing that you guys have my back."
"Of course we do! Us losers gotta stick together!" Jessica said biting her banana.
"Can you guys help me do my hair and stuff? Please? I'm hopeless."
"What if we meet at Blair's house a few hours before the party to get ready and just leave a few minutes when Thomas is about to arrive?" Jessica suggested.
"That could work!" Beth said. "Let's do it!"
I was happy that my friends were there to help me in my time of need but I still couldn't get my mind of what Carter had said. I was watching him talk to the popular people at the middle of the cafeteria. What if he was becoming one of them? He was a good person. Thomas wasn't one of them. He was kind and funny and cute.
I just hope that this party could change my life for the better.
