I wanted to punch today in the face.
When I was boarding to school, the people on the bus threw more posters at me, calling me more unpleasant things. I decided not to mind them as usual but as I got to school, bap voiding these things grew harder and harder.
As I entered the school, thousands of pink posters were plastered on every corner, just as Jessica described. On every locker, wall, bathroom door and cubical, there was a 'nerds smurf it up' sign. How juvenile to these people get?
Whispers, glares and rumors followed me all the way to my locker and suddenly, I knew what they were talking about. Someone had just wrote 'beaver girl', 'four eyes' and 'brain freak' on my locker in blue marker, washable of course but I wondered how no school staff had noticed it.
Ironic how blue is my favorite color.
As usual, I avoided it and figured the janitor might do me a favor and clean it up. I stuffed my books in to the locker and stuffed more things into my bag. I shut the locker quite loudly that some people actually looked in my direction. I walked to homeroom and slumped on one of the chairs. I was the first to get inside and immediately broke into tears. I figured none of the popular people will be here so it was best to cry now, when nobody could see me. I took my black cardigan and laid it on the table, so nobody could hear me sob.
Why me? Why did all of this have to happen to me? What did I do to deserve all this? So many questions and yet no one to answer them. I've been crying for 10 minutes until the bell rang. I quickly wiped my eyes with my sleeve and pretended like nothing was wrong. Pretending was my specialty and I was good at it.
The room filled with more people, including my two friends, who sat beside me and smiled gently before taking out their notebooks.
Our professor was discussing something about the fire alarm when I saw Thomas glance at me and laugh. He glanced again and winked at me. And after that, his juvenile jock friends looked at me and pouted while rubbing their eyes, as if they were going to cry. I hate it when people mock me.
It was lunch time that really pissed me off.
As usual, we sat down at our original table and started to eat. Our moods were slowly lightening up and we would've been laughing in no time but unfortunately, Thomas made it worse.
He and his friends entered the cafeteria and walked over to their table. Then they spotted us. Thomas and two of his friends walked over to our table and sat down beside us. He smiled at me and tickled my chin. Then all of a sudden, he started laughing.
"Is this where the cool kids hang out?" He said acting like someone with a bad lisp. The cafeteria turned to look at us and immediately started laughing.
"What did we ever do to you Thomas?" I said bravely but softly.
"Nothing." He pouted. "That's what makes it so fun." He said finally and walked over to the popular kids' table. The cafeteria went back to the usual noise and the three of us were there, drowning in embarrassment.
"We need to get him back!" Beth said slamming her fists in the table. "They can't get away with this! It's not right! It's not fair!"
"The universe isn't fair darling." I said sarcastically. "But since we all need something to feel better, what about ice cream later?"
The mood immediately lightened and my two friends smiled. "Great idea!" Jessica said. "We could do our homework there too."
"You guys are such suckers for ice cream." I laughed. "But hey I gotta get to class now so I'll see you guys later." I stood up from the table and walked towards the doors, I shot a small glare at Thomas and the rest of his group and walked out the door.
The rest of the day wasn't as bad as the first half. I no longer had any other classes with Thomas or his childish gang so I didn't suffer as much. Plus I had an ice cream hang out with the girls. We all rode towards the ice cream shop and ordered a huge tub of cookies and cream. We grabbed 3 silver spoons and devoured the ice cream.
"Do you know the answer to number 4?" I asked Beth.
"I'm not sure. Probably -8?" She said with question in her tone. I heard my phone buzz in my bag and so I rummaged through more books and papers and finally found it. It was from dad. I read the text and broke into a silly smile.
"You look like Ross Lynch just asked you out on a date." Jessica said, her mouth full of ice cream.
"Seriously Jess I can't believe how much ice cream you can stuff into your mouth and both get brain freeze or something." Beth laughed.
"It was a text from dad." I said reading it again. "I'm finally getting my braces removed."
"That's awesome!" Jessica exclaimed and Bethany nodded in agreement.
After our hang out at the ice cream place down the street, we parted ways and I arrived home. I immediately saw a white piece of paper inside the frog' smooth, where the key usually is. I looked closer and saw that it wasn't just a piece of paper, but an envelope, with my name on it. I grabbed the key and the envelope and brought it inside.
I entered my room and jumped on my bed. I grabbed a cutter and opened the white parchment and it revealed a handwritten letter, written in script.
Dear Blair,
I apologize sincerely for everything I've done. I know I've been a huge jerk to you and your friends and I intend to earn back your trust.
If it's all right with you, can you please meet me tonight at the school at round 10? I know it's a school night and all but I hope you can come. I have something to show you.
Sincerely,
Carter
