Aster
I paced in the small restroom clutching my phone in my hand so hard I was scared it might dent. A knock sounded on the family restroom door and I quickly replied, "occupied," before returning to my pacing.
"Aster, it's me open up." Jenna's voice sounded through the door as she gave another soft knock. I rushed to unlock the door and pulled her into a hug. "Woah, okay. Are you gonna explain why you told me to meet you in a public restroom?" She chuckled as we pulled away from the embrace.
Just the nerves alone made my stomach twist up in knots and my throats close so I just took a deep breath and pointed back to the sink.
She whipped her attention over to the sink to look at the plastic sticks sitting on the sides and let out a loud, audible gasp. "You think you're pregnant? Have you looked at them? Does Josh know? Oh my god why isn't Josh here?" She spat out quickly.
"Dr. Hale called me and said she was suspicious of me being like maybe a few weeks pregnant and I'm supposed to go see her next week but I was really impatient, these might not even work. And Josh doesn't know cause I want to surprise him." I answered quickly and played with a loose thread on my sleeve.
"Well have you checked them yet?" She squealed excitedly.
I shook my head, "I was too scared to do it alone."
"Well what are we waiting for!" She grinned and grabbed my hands excitedly.
"You do it, I'm like about to puke." I breathed shakily.
"Are you sure?" She asked. I just nodded frantically and pushed her towards the tests. I held my breath and shook my legs anxiously. "Aster-" Jenna barely squeaked out.
"What, just tell me please! Wait no don't."
"It's positive! Aster you're pregnant!" She nearly started crying.
I choked on my breath and my eyes welled with tears. "Oh god Jenna. What if he's not ready! I mean we just barely got engaged! What if he leaves me! Oh my god I can't lose him Jenna I love him."
"Aster, breathe!" Jenna laughed exasperatedly. "He's going to be so happy when you tell him and he will never leave you."
I wiped my tears and tried to calm my fast beating heart. "How am I gonna tell him?" I asked not really expecting a response.
Jenna shrugged, "You'll know, it'll come when it comes."
I nodded and sighed out the rest of my anxiety. "I gotta go home. I need to see Josh. Don't tell anyone okay?"
"Of course, your secret is safe with me. Congratulations Aster." She gave me a tight squeeze that I returned before rushing back home.
All I could think about was Josh and how much I missed him despite not even being gone more than an hour. I was ready to start a new chapter in our lives.
