Phil's pov

She nodded as she go up. "I love you too Philly. I've got to get back before dark." I got up too and walked her to the door.

"Ill try to get better. I promise." I said once we were at the door. She turned to me and fell into me. I slowly wrapped my arms around her.

"Please." she whispered. She pushed herself up and stepped out the door. "See ya later Philly." she said with a much chipper voice and a small wave. I waved back and shut the door once she was out of sight. I walked back to my room and fell back on my bed.

I thought back to the times when life wasnt as difficult. When our biggest problem was our parents wanted us to take a nap but we wanted to keep playing. When when we cried it was easier to get picked back up. When love was love and we could hold hands and hug and no one would care to think any more. To when everyone was happier, everyone showed they cared. When no one was scared to speak their mind.

"Hi! Im y/n. What's you're name?" I looked up from my pile of sand to see a small girl standing in front of me, a smile plastered to her face and her arm stuck straight out. I was confused as no one ever talked to me. She laughed and sat down in front of me. "You don't have to be shy."

  "Uh.... My names Phil."

"Nice to meet you Phil! Whatcha doing?"

"Building a sand castle." I said shyly.

She gasped excitedly. "My daddy's the best at sand castles. Hes teaching me how to build em. Can I help?" I nodded and she ran over somewhere. I thought she left me but then she came back with a bucket full of sand.

"What's that?" I asked looking in to the bucket.

"Its sand. I got some wet sand cuz it sticks better." she picked up two hand fulls and placed them together making a ball to prove it.

Y/n walked into the preschool room, looking as sad as a lost puppy. She was by herself, as always. She went to put her bookbag up and I put down my blocks and ran over to her.

"Y/n, what's wrong?" she turned to me and fell into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her cold body.

"My daddy said that mummy was going to move away. For good." she muffled into my chest.

"Aww. Im sorry y/n." I could feel my heart actually breaking.

She pushed herself up off me and looked me in the eyes. "He said that the courts haven't decided if im going to stay with daddy or mummy. I dont want to leave Phil!" I pulled my sleeve down and wiped her tears away.

"I wont let you leave." I took her hand. "Come play blocks with me." she followed me and played blocks with me, forgetting the troubles of the outside world.

···

"Happy birthday Philly!" y/n yelled while dancing circles around me, blowing a party blower. "How old are you now? Like, 20 something?" I laughed at her little joke.

"No. 8. You know this y/n."

"Ya but you gotta joke around sometimes." she booped my nose. She smiled, brightening up the whole room. "Come on 8 year old! Lets go play games in the tree house!" she grabbed my hand, dragging me towards the tree house.

···

Y/n applied the concealer to my face, trying to cover the bruises under my eyes. "You gotta be more careful Phil. If they come for you, punch em first. Show you're the one in charge." she sat back at looked over her work. She added a little more then put it down.

"Sorry. Its hard to not get picked on."

"Dont say that!" she exclaimed, bouncing a bit on my bed. "Turn that frown upside down mister! Just cuz were in a new school doesn't mean it'll be hard. We just have to try harder to make new friends."

"I dont need to make new friends because you'll never leave me, right?" she looked at me for a while then silently kissed my head.

"Good night Philly." she laid down on the opposite side of the bed and closed her eyes.

···

"You know, today was really fun! Thanks Philly." y/n beamed her energetic smile at me. I shyly looked down.

"No problem. I enjoyed it too."

"We should do it more." she said, swing our arms with a smile on her face.

"Ya." i looked over at her and smiled.

"You're really cute when you're blushing." her smile grew as I felt my face growing warmer.

  "T-thanks." I murmured.

"No problem. I like telling the truth."

···

"You can't! No y/n, you swore you would never leave me!" she looked down, a frown upon her face.

"There's still a month until I have to leave."

"That's not enough. What happened to forever? What happened to our code?"

She let out a small sigh. "We were kids. We thought an hour in the corner was forever."

"But...." she cut me off by falling into my chest, like she always did when one of us was sad. But that was part of the code. When one of us was sad, so was the other.

"I don't want to leave Phil. I want to stay." she wrapped her arms around me, cuddling up against me. "But this is one of the things you can't change." I hugged her back, letting my tears fall as I always do around her.

  "You'll come back right?"

  "As soon as I can."

···

I ran through the airport, the security yelling behind me.

"Y/n!" I screamed desperately after her. I saw her turn around and start running towards me. I spun her around, happy that I didn't miss being able to say goodbye.

"Im going to miss you." I whispered a I sat her down.

"Im going to miss you too." she whispered back. I held her, to scared off what was ahead to let her go.

" Excuse me, miss are you going to get on the plane or not?" I didn't look to see who it was. I already knew it was the boarding person.

"I have to go Phil. Im sorry." she turned to leave but I quickly grabbed her wrist.

"Wait. I have to tell you something." she turned back to me, curiosity scribbled on her face.

"What is it?" I took her head in my hands. Now or never phil. I quickly kissed her, terrified of her reaction. "Phil..."

"y/n, you have to go. Ill see you later alright?" she slowly nodded. We both knew it was a lie. There was no later. "Good bye, y/n. Have fun."

"Good bye Phil. For now." I heard her say. I stood for a moment watching her go. I turned and ran as soon as I felt tears falling down my face.

I ran and ran until I reached my brothers car where I let everything out.

"I knew I shouldn't have came." I muttered quietly.

"No Phil. You did the right thing." he started drive away before I was able to change my mind and run back in there.

···

I thought back to all those times. The times when we were closer.

The times I let her in...
