"I feel like I've heard that name before, Millie."
"Millie's not a very uncommon name," she responds, there was a trace of nervousness laced through her voice.
Why would she be nervous?
I look up at the thick curtain of leaves, barley making out the colors she's wearing.
"Why are you in this tree?"
"So nobody can see me."
"Do you come here a lot?"
"Yes, it's my hiding place."
"Wow, me too."
My heart skipped a beat. I feel like we could be friends, we have a connection, I can tell.
"So I'm guessing you live around here?" He asked curiously.
"Yeah," Millie responded hesitantly.
I squinted his eyes, trying to get a better image of the girl above him, I manage to see a pair of white converse swinging back and forth, I stifle a quiet chuckle.
"I go to West High, what about you?" I ask.
I hope she goes to West High too.
"Me too."
A rush of joy waves through me. "Oh really? What grade are you in?"
"10th."
"Me too."
"Hey, we should eat lunch together sometime. What classes do you have, maybe we have some of the sa-"
She's cut me off by saying, "I'm so sorry, but I have to go."
I hear rustling and a thump, she's jumped out of the tree on the other side. I quickly jog around the trunk in hopes of meeting her face to face. But all I saw was the back of a small girl running at full speed across the small grass field, her white hoodie up, wearing dark blue jeans and those white converse.
I couldn't even see her hair. I want to meet her, but how could I find her if I have no idea what she looks like?
Something clicked, I have her name, Millie. Her name just as beautiful as her mellifluous voice.
I don't know what this feeling is inside me, it could be curiosity, or it could be something else.
It doesn't matter what it is, I am going to find this mysterious Millie.
