"Fuck!" Finn whispered to himself as he misplaced his ring finger on the guitar for the fifth time, playing a horrendous sounding chord.
Finn went over the song again, and again. This had to be perfect, for Millie. He tried closing his eyes, and picturing her, her amber eyes, her pink lips and adorable smile, her slightly curly brown hair. His eyes fluttered open as he felt a foolish grin spread across his face.
Just thinking of her makes me smile.
He plays the song again, seamlessly, and grins, finally giving his fingers a break. Today is the day, he was going to get Millie back, he had to.
Iris knocked on Millie's front door, exactly the time she promised Finn. Millie answered with a faint smile.
"Hi Iris, come in," Millie steps aside to give Iris room to enter her house.
Iris smiled and stepped inside, they walked up to Millie's bedroom in a sort of uncomfortable silence. Millie and Iris sat on the fluffy blanket on top of Millie's bed. Iris looked around Millie's room curiously, spotting a string of fairy lights with small printed album covers in between the spaced bulbs.
Iris points to it, "That's super cute!"
"Thanks."
There was another awkward pause, this one even longer than the last. Millie finds the courage to ask the question that's been burning through her brain.
"Please be honest with me, do you and Finn... like each other?" Millie asks nervously.
"Yes," She replied, Millie's mending heart shattered again. Iris could see the broken look in Millie's eyes. Millie looked down at her lap.
Iris reacts quickly, frenetically, "No, no! Not like that, we're just friends. We used to like each other like that at some point, but," Iris sighs, "it's different now."
"But how do I know that Finn doesn't still-"
"Trust me, I can tell that Finn is completely head over heels for you, Millie."
Millie perks up, staring at Iris with big, hopeful eyes, "Really?"
Iris nods, a smile of mixed emotions spreading on her face. The truth is, Iris hasn't completely gotten over Finn yet, but he had gotten over her. But as much as she wanted to, she wasn't going to get in the middle Finn and Millie, she wasn't that kind of person anymore.
And Finn loves her, Iris could tell. As much as it hurts, Iris knows neither Finn or Iris loved each other, they just really liked each other... a lot.
"Hey," Millie snaps her fingers in front of Iris's face, "you okay?" She asks softly.
"Oh what? Yeah sorry, I just- zoned out."
"Oh, don't worry I do that all the time," they giggle.
"And just so you know, it was me, who came after Finn, me who kissed him. Finn is totally loyal to you, and I'm sorry that I did that without even considering the fact that he might already have a girlfriend."
Millie smiles, "Apology accepted."
"Thank you... I think we can be really good friends you know," Iris smiles.
"I think so too."
"Then it's settled!"
Millie furrows her brows, "What's settled."
"We need to exchange secrets and become closer friends," Iris giggles.
Millie sets holds her chin in her palm, lying in her stomach and propping herself up with her elbows. "Please, do tell."
