22 : The Words

Siya's Pov 

"So Siya, how's work going?" Papa asked as we all sat at the table for dinner as the servers served us the food.

Papa was sitting at the head of the table with my Mumma at his side followed by Riya and Dev beside her, whereas I and Kanishk sat on Papa's other side.

"It's going good, I have a presentation with Mr. Juan tomorrow," I tell him.

"It's tomorrow?" he asked as I nod my head and look ahead to see Riya staring at me angrily. "I'll join you then," my papa says and I avert my eyes from my sister to look at Papa.

Since she arrived here unexpectedly I had been nothing but on edge. It was not Dev and her closeness that was affecting me, but it was actually just her, she was with me since we were children, she was my big sister for god sake and she was never like this, never so jealous of me, but I guess people change.

"So you still need guidance during a presentation that Dad is joining you? Come on now, don't be such a child," Riya says and suddenly everyone went silent at the table. I see Kanishk who was all silent sitting beside look up at her.

"Riya!" Papa called out in his stern voice, I could see anger on his face.

"What? I'm just saying," Riya says chuckling, "I mean Papa come on, you seriously think she is a good fit to be a CEO?" she asks and looks at Kanishk who looked at her with an unreadable expression.

"She is more than capable to handle my company Riya, at least she is more capable than you were," Papa says and I gulped down the unknown emotion and looked at Riya to see her seething in anger.

"What did I ever do to you guys?" Riya shrieked irritated and glared at me, "Only because I took Dev from you, you take revenge on me by making my own parents against me," she blamed and my eyes widened.

"Riya calm down," Mumma says and Riya just pushes away her hand. 

"I did not do any such thing, it was all your doing," I tell her, fed up with her accusations. I see Dev just sitting there enjoying the fight between us over him.

"Oh yeah, then why did Papa drop me off the CEO post just a day after you saw me and Dev together?" She asks seething in anger.

I stood up, ready to answer her the way she can only understand, by shouting, and as soon as I opened my mouth to say something I shut up when I felt a hand cover mine and give it a squeeze. I look down and see Kanishk holding my hand and making me sit down again as he carefully held my hand in his and glares at Riya.

"Say one more word against my wife and I'll forget that you're her sister," Kanishk says, I could feel venom dripping from his voice and I suck in a breath. I never heard him so angry and he sounded furious. 

I looked toward Riya who was looking at him shocked as if it was the first time someone was speaking to her that way, her face went from angry to terrified and then again angry as she looked at Dev, waiting for him to defend her or say anything for speaking with her in that way but looking at Dev's pale face it seemed that he was more terrified of Kanishk then Riya was.

I couldn't help but feel on top of the world with my husband's hand in mine as he defended me and inevitably a smile came up on my face.

"Okay everyone, please calm down," Mumma said trying to soothe the atmosphere and I look at Kanishk and squeeze his hand in mine as his eyes come towards me, and see annoyance flickering in his eyes.
