Chapter 16

Sky's POV

After Eve and Drew left, I clear the table and start walking to a table in the back to take their order.

"Oh, Sky I got that table!" I heard James say before I got to them.

"Cool, thanks."

I walk into the kitchen to where Cody, the chef, was cleaning up from the last meal he cooked, preparing for the next.

"It's been pretty slow today." I comment.

"Yeah, I guess that's good for your first day." He laughs.

"Yeah."

We both look in the same direction when we hear the door to the diner opening.

"Okay, well you can just get through these customers, then I think your shift can be over." Cody smiled.

"Really? Cool!"

I turn the corner seeing who walked in.

"No way." I chuckle, grabbing my notepad for orders and walking towards them.

"Hey guys, can I get you something to drink?"

"Root beer."

"Sprite."

I walk behind the counter to get the two their drinks.

"So did you get a new battery for your truck?" I ask Thomas once I put their drinks down.

"No." he laughs. "My sister gave us a ride here. She wanted to visit her boyfriend." Thomas points to a girl towards the back of the restaurant, talking to James.

"I can't believe it! Your sister is dating James!?"

"Yeah they've been dating since their senior or something."

"Huh, I always thought he was lying."

Thomas' sister looks back at us and waves. I look at James who is pointing and gesturing to her mouthing, "I told you!"

"Okay then." I laugh. "Did you get a chance to look at the menu? Do you know what you want?"

"Hey Sky! Can you come here for a second?" James yells from the other side of the restaurant.

"Hold that thought."

I put my little notebook in my pocket along with my own and walk over to James.

"Yes?"

"Sky, this is my very REAL girlfriend Meghan. Meghan this is Sky." He introduces us.

"Hey nice to meet you! Hey, are you the girl who is trying to get my baby brother to watch The Walking Dead?" Meghan asks.

"Yes! And apparently he's scared of the walkers." I chuckle.

"Yeah he was hiding behind our dog Bailey pretty much every time one was on screen."

"Anyway, Meghan and I were going to go on a date and I was wondering if you could cover the rest of my shift?" He hopefully asked.
