I just finished my therapy for the day when I see Natasha, who is sweaty from the gym, run up to me. She reaches me and places a hand on my chest. "Lets go out." She grins mischievously. "Uh.. you have somewhere in mind?" I ask a little surprised by her request. After all we were supposed to be "laying low". "Actually I do." She waits and then raises an eyebrow tempting me to ask where.
I give in. "Where?"
This makes her smile. Not a mischievous grin, or a tug at the lip. A real goofy smile. The one I love so much. "That is a surprise." She gives me a playful shove. "All you need to do is dress nicely and meet me at 5:00." Once again the smile. "You're making me nervous." Now it's my turn to play around and grin. She doesn't respond just turns and walks away confidently only turning her head to flash a grin. "Romanoff." I call after her. But it's pointless she just keeps walking. I sigh but smile to myself.

At quarter to five I put on a simple blue button up long sleeve shirt with simple dress pants. And then I meet Natasha on her floor. Recently we have been staying in SHIELD headquarters.

I'm just about to knock but Natasha opens her door before I can. She is wearing a simple but beautiful black dress with lace and flowers on the top half. She has her hair in soft curls (my favorite)

"Hey handsome. Ready to go?" She asks as she shoves some sort of basket into my arms. "As ready as I'll ever be."

When we step out of the car Natasha shoves a ball cap down low on my head and covers my eyes with one of her hands. Her other hand leads me to where we are going. We walk for a while until she lets a go of her grip on my arm to put something on the ground. "Sit." She orders and I obey.

I feel myself sitting on a blanket. She takes the baskets out of my arms and I hear her pulling things out of it. "Open." I see wine and sandwiches and a cheese platter with crackers. "What's this?" I ask smiling. "You've never been on a picnic?!" I shake my head. "Me neither. But they are supposed to be nice." She says as I look around. I notice she had picked a spot closest to the trees in Central Park, away from crowds. She hands me a sandwich and starts eating her own. We finish eating as I pore us some wine. "To picnics." I say and laugh as I raise my glass. "To being normal people."

"Where are we going now?" I ask getting impatient. "Just wait." We drive a few more minutes and then pull up outside of a bar that has a piano logo on it. I guess she sees me looking strangely at the sign because she says "Its a piano bar. They play music while you drink.... and dance." She says smiling reassuringly.
"Well then lets go." I say as I grab her hand. Both thinking the same thing, we find a low lit table in the corner. I order two glasses of Champagne and then I stare at Natasha. The low light casts small shadows on her. But the remaining light hits her in such a perfect way.

I could look at her forever but then I remember reality. I wish we could do this. I wish we could be these people. The couples you see holding hands downtown, the woman dragging the man into stores, the pair cuddling during movies. But we can't. Heck, this is risky enough. We work for a top secret intelligence program. We gave up the normal life when we signed up. It makes me even more upset when I think about how Natasha never even had a chance at a normal life. "Listen Nat... tonight was nice but..." I hesitate not wanting to ruin the night. But luckily she reads my mind "I know. I don't want to live life in hiding. We do enough of that already." She squeezes my hand for reassurance. I smile and look into her eyes. She brakes away from me and stands up. "What are you doing?" I ask. "Just because we can't be normal people doesn't mean we can't enjoy tonight." I get the idea and stand. "May I have this dance?" Instead of answering she runs to the piano and asks the piano man something. Then she comes back over to me and we walk to the dance floor together. A song that I've heard her play before comes on. It's sad. No, it's bittersweet. Like us I think.

We begin to dance and I hold her tighter. This time I don't step on her feet. "Hey you've been practicing." She notices. "It took some work but I couldn't be stepping on you're heels anymore." I explain as she smiles up at me. She goes up on her tip toes and places a kiss on my cheek. Then she rests her head on my chest. "I love you." I feel her smiling as she says it. I notice we are he only ones dancing. And that everyone in the bar is watching us, smiling. I know we should be more careful but I'm too happy to care. It makes me love Natasha even more that she would go out of her way to do something for me that she knows means a lot to me. She makes me feel like nothing bad has or ever will happen. I get a tighter grip and her, pulling her closer. "Thank you."
