***just a note. I know the first chapters were from authors view but now it will be from the characters views.***

Despite all the protests in my head I walk up to Steve after the meeting. " So what are you going to do now soldier boy?"

"Now?" Steve asked innocently, glancing up at me from his chair.
" Well the war is officially over." I add, secretly hoping he won't leave. He's just about the only friend I have here. And just about the only person I trust anymore.

"For now." He shoots back.
"That's true but you should enjoy your time off " I nag at him.

"Who says I'm taking time off?" He questions with a smile.

I love that smile. I need to stop this but the second I look up into his eyes I find I speak before I think.
" So you are staying?!" I speak a bit too quickly.

" Do you want me to?"
He gives me a quiz. He is learning how to play my type of games. Damn you Rogers.

"Oh Steve, you're a man if I've seen one. So you tell me." I retaliate, crossing my arms and keeping the banter running. He stands from his seat and takes a step closer. I don't move a muscle. Soon he is towering over me, so that I have to crane my neck to maintain eye contact. If I was anyone else, the action would be intimidating but I know I could hold my weight against him.

"What about you Romanoff? I think you've earned a vacation."
He flashes me a slight smile.
"There ain't no rest for the wicked. "  I quote.

He gives a small, almost undetectable laugh. So I can tell he recognizes my reference. Then his features shift.
"Nat" He moves slightly closer and perhaps I did too. He opened his mouth to say more but we are interrupted.

"Capsicle why don't you let me give you a ride.?" Tony buds in, popping his head in from the hallway, not noticing our situation or just not caring.

"Thanks but I have the motorcycle." Steve replies with a nod of thanks.
"That thing will be your doom cap." I conclude.

He flashes us both his golden boy smile before saying " I better go."
I wish I could say something else to him. Something to show him how I feel. But all that comes out is
"See you around Rogers."

I walk past Tony and head my own way out. "Stark." He's too distracted by his phone to notice me. But as I walk out I hear him say " Take care Nat." And with that I'm gone.

Half an hour later I arrive at my small apartment. I keep it for when I don't stay at Tony's rich boy palace. Or when I need a place to lay low. Once I grab something to eat and sit down on the couch I recalibrate the little show in the hallway between Steve and I. It's nice to know  he pays attention to my little games. It adds to the reasons I feel so comfortable with him. I know this is a mistake. It's wrong but when I'm with him it feels so right. It the only place ( besides with Clint) that I feel I can be myself. And not be ashamed of my past. Because Steve is to much of a gentleman to question me. Maybe this is right. But is the danger worth it?
