Chapter 16

Kayne's pov

Waking up with Rayne in my arms after a night of making love felt incredible.

I loved this woman so much.

I could get used to her being in my arms.

To holding her all night long.

I wanted her in my future.

I was scared if I told her this I would scare her.

I didn't want to push her, or rush her in any way.

I just laid her watching her sleep.

She stirred then opened her beautiful eyes and smiled up at me.

"How long have you been up?" She asked.

"Not long beautiful. How are you feeling this morning?"

I was worried she was having second thoughts.

"I am feeling amazing."

She moved closer to me and kissed me.

We were gearing up for round two when my work phone went off.

Once I got off the phone I knew I needed to go.

My patient was in the emergency room and was not doing well.

"I'm so sorry beautiful but this is going to have to wait. I need to get to the hospital."

"It's ok I understand."

"I'll call you when I can."

I gave her one last kiss then hurried out the door.

Now I was in full doctor mode.

My patient was a 4-year-old girl with a heart condition.

As a doctor I'm not supposed to get attached, but with this patient I can't help it.

This sweet little girl is all alone.

Her parents couldn't deal with her always being sick, and just gave her up.

She had no one fighting for her.

Well now she has me, and I wasn't going to give up.

I couldn't let her down.

I know this may sound weird but I loved this little girl.

I have been her doctor since she was born.

Her grandmother was taking care of her, but she recently passed away.

No foster home wanted her because of her health.

This poor girl was easy to love.

She would need a safe place to recover once we found her a heart.

She was going to have a long recovery.

Before I got with Rayne I agreed to take care of her.

I wanted to adopt little Ava.

I still want to, but I don't know how Rayne will react.

I don't want to lose her either.
