Chapter 26

Kane's pov

I saw the turmoil on Brantley's face when they wheeled Josie away and he had to stay behind.

I told him I would take care of them both.

I ran to catch up.

The babies heart rate is dangerously low, so we had to move fast.

I was scared because Lily hasn't woken up yet, but I need to put all that a side and focus on my best friends' son.

It took no time at all to get the baby out, but he wasn't breathing.

The cord was wrapped around his neck.

I didn't have time to focus on Josie because this little guy needed me.

He was very small for a baby that was full-term.

I heard a lot of chaos going on around Josie.

I knew it would destroy Rayne if anything happened to Josie.

They were more like sisters than friends.

I got the baby breathing and we rushed him to the NICU.

I was torn because I wanted to be there for Josie, but I needed to be there for her son.

I knew Josie would want me to take care of her son, so I followed the nurses out.

I ordered tests and told the nurses I was going to let Brantley know he had a son.

I was about to the waiting room when I was paged.

I hurried to the nearest phone worried that something happened to Lily or Josie's son.

It was a nurse in the NICU telling me that the baby was doing better his vitals were stable and he was breathing on his own.

That was great news.

At least I could tell Brantley something good.

I was walking into the waiting room when a nurse stopped me.

She told me that Lily was awake and doing very well.

That she was asking for Rayne and me.

I was beyond happy.

Now I just hoped everything was alright with Josie.
