It had been weeks since I had seen Simon, and to say I was disappointed was an understatement.
I huffed as I threw myself onto the couch, picking up the ring.
He really is a stubborn bastard.
Placing the ring on my finger, I admired it's beauty.
"Mummy! Mummy!" Angelo shouted, startling me.
"Angelo. My goodness." I exhaled, placing my hand on my racing heart.
"Someone's here!" He grinned, flinging his arms around my neck.
"They are? Well let's go see who it is." I smiled softly, taking him onto my hip.
The blurred glass in the front door made it almost impossible for me to see the silhouette.
I opened the door wide and could instantly feel the corners of my lips quirk up.
I coughed, bringing back an emotionless glare.
"Daddy!" Angelo giggled like the innocent child he is.
"Hello, angel." Simon smiled back.
"Simon." I greeted.
"Adele. I uhm... I came to talk." He said, scratching the back of his neck.
I rolled my eyes. I picked up on the action.
He never was good with apologising. He hates to admit he was wrong and when it comes down to do so, his fingers instantly claw at the skin on his neck.
"I don't need your apology Simon." I scoffed, walking back into the living room, allowing him to enter.
"How'd yo-"
"You forget how long we've spent together." I rolled my eyes.
"Of course. Anyway, I'm sorry." He said, avoiding eye contact.
That was the one trait he used with me only.
He was scared of my glare.
"Look at me, Simon." I said, trying to capture his gaze, "I need to know you mean it."
He was still hesitant.
"Simon I need to know I can trust you." I said quietly.
That gained his attention.
His soft eyes gazed into mine as he apologised once again.
"I'm sorry, sunshine." He frowned.
I turned to face Angelo who was still on my hip, "What are we going to do with this man?"
"Keep him." Angelo laughed, reaching to play with Simon's beard.
I smiled setting Angelo on his feet, then taking Simon's upper arm.
"You go play for two seconds, baby. I need to talk to daddy."
He nodded, running out in to the hallway.
"Adele." Simon smiled sadly.
"That little boy needs permanent, Simon. You can't come to me, begging to be in his life then leave for weeks on end. You must be constant. That's the only way this is going to work out."
"I know, and I'm sorry. I had to go out of town for work." He sighed.
"Warn us. Don't just disappear, Simon." I said, crossing my arms.
"I'm sorry, babe." He said, taking my hands into his.
His brows furrowed at something as be looked down at our hands.
Inspecting mine, a grin broke onto his face.
"You're wearing it." He said like a child.
I was flushed as I pulled my hand away from his instantly.
"I forgot to take it off." I mumbled.
"Natural, isn't it?" He smiled, following me as I went to find Angelo.
"Well, you get used to something after years of wearing it." I shrugged, heading upstairs.
Still feeling him hot on my heels, I spun around which brought him to an abrupt stop.
"Was annoying me the only reason you had for coming here?" I asked.
"I need a favour." He smiled sheepishly.
"Simon I'm not doing you any favours. Last time I agreed to, we ended up locked outside my apartment in the pouring rain in nothing but shorts and a t-shirt." I huffed.
"This one is important, Addie." He frowned, a slight smirk playing at the corner of his lips.
"What is it?"
"I need you to come to my parents banquet tonight." He said quickly.
I furrowed my brows. Was it that time of year already?
Simon's parents, Rosemary and Andrew, held this annual banquet to celebrate their company's success throughout the year. It was usually held mid August.
"I have nothing to wear." I began making excuses.
I hated going each year. I resented walking around the hall in my 6 inch heels, as Simon paraded me around like an object. He was always told off for that later.
"I can have everything sorted. Please?" He pouted.
"Why do I need to go? Take someone else." I shrugged.
"Please, Adele." I looked into his eyes, sending him a glare.
"I hate you." I growled, continuing my journey to Angelo's room.
"I know you do, babe." He replied, chuckling.
