"Why are you so nervous?" Simon asked, taking a hold of my clammy hands.

We were in the car on the way to the venue and I couldn't help but be nervous. The attention from employees in work was way more than I could handle nevermind outside of the office.

I just shrugged and continued to gnaw on my bottom lip.

"Adele, you see these people almost everyday." He smiled slightly, squeezing my hands.

"Yes, in a professional manner, Simon. They're practically forced to talk to me, I'm their boss." I huffed, frowning at him.

"Forced is a strong word, sweetheart." He chuckled, "You look beautiful by the way." He grinned.

"You look good too." I grumbled, still not completely convinced by his words.

"Don't worry. I'll be right beside you." He laughed.

"Simon we need to." I said, turning to face him.

"Adele, Angelo will be fine for longer than an hour." He smiled down at me.

"Fine. Two at the most, Simon. That's it." I said strictly.

"How did you ever manage to come yourself?" He chuckled.

"I haven't been in the past two years." I sighed, rubbing my temples.

"And why is that?" He asked, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"There was a specific encounter." I shrugged, fixing his tie.

"Care to tell me about it?" His voice was suddenly rougher.

I looked up at him innocently to find his jaw clenched. I sighed and turned in his arms so that my back was resting against his chest. I scanned the crowd and pointed to one person discreetly.

"You see him over there?" I asked and heard him mumble a 'yes.'

I turned back around, "Two years ago, at the works night out, I was getting a drink from the bar when he came over and began to get a little handsy. Long story short, He kissed me, I pushed him away and uhm told him I had a husband." I said sheepishly.

"What's his name?" He asked, seeming a little more calm.

"Why does it matter?" I asked with furrowed brows.

"He's coming over, what's his name?" He asked again.

"Liam, I think." I muttered.

"You think?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Well I haven't spoken to the man in years, Simon." I said, scowling at him.

"Adele!" Said Liam.

"Oh, hey Liam!" I smiled, politely.

"I didn't think I'd see you here." He said, finally stopping infront of Simon and I.

"Yeah, well." I shrugged, suddenly nervous again.

"Hey man, I don't think we've met." He said, turning to Simon.

"No I don't believe we have." Simon said, tightening his hold on me. This caused me to jump slightly and grab his arm.

"Liam." He said, introducing himself.

"Simon." Was the reply he got.

"So you two are a thing, huh?" Liam asked, now eyeing the arm Simon had locked around me.

"If we're calling a marriage a 'thing' then I suppose we do, yes." Simon answered, gruffly.

"Marriage?" Liam mumbled to himself. His brows furrowed before his eyes widened.

"What? That much of a shock to meet the guy married to the woman whose face you tried to suck off?"

"Simon!" I gasped.

"Look, I'm so sorry. I never knew she was married." Liam replied, trying to defend himself.

"So if she wasn't it would be okay? You think it's okay to force yourself on a woman like that?" He was seeing red. I knew he was.

"Simon, just leave it." I sighed, placing my hands on his chest.

"I said it was a mistake." Liam's voice began to raise.

"People like you disgust me." Simon said, frowning at him.

I cupped Simon's cheeks, bringing his head down to eye level.

"Walk away from this, Simon. Thank you for defending me but, it was two years ago. Let it go, baby." I whispered.

"Sorry." He mumbled.

"Liam, it was a pleasure." I nodded towards him, taking Simon's hand, "I'll see you around."

***

"I'm sorry we had to leave early. And I'm sorry I made a scene." Simon spoke, bringing the car to a stop.

"You made a mountain out of a mole hill, Simon." I sighed, "But, it's okay. I know you're protective and what he did wasn't acceptable. You still need to remember, even if I did allow that to happen, no one is at fault. I never knew we were still married. Keep that in mind." I warned him.

"I know, I'm sorry Sunshine." He pouted.

"It's okay. Come on, I want to see my little angel." I smiled, about to leave the car.

"Uhm, actually I'm staying at home tonight." He said with pursed lips.

"Oh, okay. Any reason?" I asked, a little curious.

"No, not really."

Realising this was the only explanation I was getting, I sighed and nodded.

"I'll see you later then."

"Hey." He said, taking hold of my wrist.

I turned back to face him only to be met with his lips.

"I'll see you tomorrow." He smiled, letting me go.

That man was hiding something.
