Piper's POV

I flop down on my bed, letting out an exhausted sigh. The surgery took four hours, and I haven't gotten sleep in 27 hours. I look over to the clock and see that it is 7:00 am. I have been working for a full day, and I am more than ready to go to sleep. It doesn't take me five minutes to get to sleep, because everything becomes black real quick.

***

I wake up due to a loud buzzing sound in my ear. I get up, seeing my buzzer going off. Derek is paging me 911, and I quickly get up, getting on clothes and rushing to the car. It takes me ten minutes to get there, and I go to the room right away.

"What happened?" I ask.

"Well look who it is." Derek says.

I see a women and a little girl standing up by the bed of the man we saved not even ten hours ago.

"What-?" I ask.

"This is Sherry and Elizabeth." Derek introduces us.

I go in for a hand shake, but Sherry pulls me into a hug.

"Thank you so much, you saved my husband!" she says to me.

"It's my job." I say, smiling kindly at her.

"I don't know what I would have done if I lost him, but you two, you saved him!" she points out.

"Your husband, and daddy, is very strong." I say.

Elizabeth's eyes light up and she slowly walks up to me.

"Thank you." she says, hugging my leg.

I crouch down to her level, hugging her back.

"It was more your daddy than anyone." I say, giving her a friendly smile.

She returns the gesture and rushes back up to her mom who is sitting by David, the patient. He slowly starts stirring, and I see him open his eyes. Derek looks at me, and we both quietly slip out, leaving the family to have their moment. I see Sherry break down and hug David tightly, and Elizabeth hugging him too.

"That's cute, that's what makes the hours worth it." I say to no one in particular.

"You're telling me. I have been doing this for a long time, and that has to the best feeling you get." he says back.

I smile at him before grabbing David's chart.

"When do you think he can get released?" I ask.

"Well, it depends how he reacts to everything, we are gonna have to run some neurology tests, but other than that." he responds.

"Okay" I say, refreshing everything in his chart.

"I'm gonna go get changed, catch you later." I say to him.

"Wait! Piper, uhm, I just wanted to thank you." Derek says to me.

"Why is everyone thanking me, first Mer, and now you?" I question.

"We are thanking you because you saved our little girl. You may not think that, but you two fought through it, and you relayed on each other. I can't thank you enough for saving her." he says to me.

"You don't need to thank me, please, don't thank me." I say to him.

He brings me into a hug, and I hug him right back. After that I head back up the lounge and get changed into scrubs.

"You and my father were hugging, why?" Ellis asks.

"Jesus, where did you come from, and secondly he was just being an uncle." I say, not wanting to get into it.

"Oh, okay then." she says, still looking suspicious.

"I promise it was nothing good, nor bad." I say, trying to reassure her.

"I said, okay." she half-yells.

I look down at the ground, not knowing what to say next. I slowly tie my shoes then get up.

"I'm going to do my rounds." I mumble, going past her.

"Piper, wait." she says, put I am already out the door to listen to her.

Maybe I should have went back and talked to her, but I just couldn't. Something inside me just couldn't turn around and face her. Maybe it was due to the fact that everyone thought that I was the hero, but I wasn't. It was the opposite actually. She saved me and we had promised each other never to speak of it again, that we 'both saved each other' but we where lying to each other. She was the person who dragged us out of the place, and I was the reason she was in that position, because I introduced her to him, I was the reason everything was happening now. Maybe it wasn't anyone else that was the problem, maybe it was me. All of a sudden I crash into someone, and I feel the dampness on my face.

"Piper, piper?" I hear the voice say, but it sounds so distant.

How could this happen? How could I go from being alright to words setting me off, and everything slowly starting to fade away. How?

That's all I remember, besides all the yelling around me, before the haze that is over my eyes fully takes over and everything goes black.

Ellis's POV

I snapped. It's not like I meant too. Everything just became too much, Daniel and I had just had a fight, and I decided that it would be a good idea to take it out on my best friend. I mentally slap myself for doing it, but I quickly change out of my regular clothes and into my scrubs. Everything would have been going normally until I got out into the hallway and I heard yelling, and people crowding around a body.

"What the hell is hap-" I start saying, but then I see who is lying on the floor.

Piper.

It takes me a few seconds to compose myself, but I can't. The last thing she remembers before collapsing is me snapping at her. I rush down to her, and I feel myself crying.

"Ellis, back away, we will take care of it." Daniel says, placing his hand on my back.

"No! No!" I scream.

He puts his arms around my waist, dragging me away from my unconscious best friend.

"What the hell are you doing!" I spit at me, getting away from his grasp.

"You're only gonna get in the way, she needs other people to take care of her right now, let them do what they have to do." he says to me.

More tears start coming down my face and I feel his hands grasp around my waist and pull me close to him. I sob onto his shoulder and he just sits there, holding me.

"Noah, and her parents. Someone needs to get them." I say right after they get her on the gurney.

"Noah already knows, he's the one who caught her." he whispers to me.

"I need to find Lexie and Mark." I say, wiping the tears away.

"Do you want me to go wit-" he says, but I cut him off. "No, I can do it."

I give him a kiss before walking down the ER floor.

"Does anyone know where the Dr. Sloan's are?" I ask.

"Male Sloan is in surgery, why?" Callie says, her back turned towards me.

"I-I need to talk to him." I say, the tears starting to roll again.

"Okay, it might need to wai-" she says, turning around.

"What the hell happened?" she asks me.

"Something's wrong with Piper."
